⠀THE SOUND was beautiful, echoing throughout the small room and filling all the space that was once only home to silence and self hatred painting the walls. it was light and pretty, like invisible fairies dancing through the air and lifting the moods of anyone who had the pleasure of having it reach their ears.
that's what it was like when taehyung laughed. he sat there on the couch with his legs up on the cushion, head titled back and eyes squeezed shut with joy.
jungkook didn't even care that he was being laughed at — he'd continue to do whatever it was if it made the brunette laugh like that.
"kook!" the nickname rolled off his tongue so easily. "you never told me you had a frog tattoo." taehyung was scrolling through the other boys phone and found a picture of jungkook at a parlor last year.
"it wasn't my choice." it was a lame attempt at defending himself, but jungkook just shrugged anyways and sat down beside the brunette. "jimin picked it. he said it would be lucky."
"what makes a frog lucky?" taehyung asked.
the ravenette chuckled quietly at the memory and leaned down to lift up the fabric of his skinny jeans, the little green ink on the back of his ankle. "it was the night after one of our first jobs we pulled together." he started to recall the story after showing taehyung the tattoo. the smaller boy was very intrigued by now and didn't realize how he scooted closer, their thighs touching now.
"jimin and i were walking home from a restaurant, it was mexican night and we always went for the endless chips and salsa." he seemed to always smile the most when talking about jimin and his friends, taehyung noticed this quickly after they first met. he wondered if anyone would feel so fondly for him that way.
"we took a shortcut and went to walk across the highway, but there was a frog going to hop out onto the street. jimin said we had to pick it up and put it in the bushes so it wouldn't get run over." jungkook had mindlessly started to mess with the brunettes hand, playing with his fingers as he spoke, "so that's what i did. and as we stopped to do that, there was a huge accident right there on the highway."
taehyungs head had landed on the boys shoulder as he listened, he couldn't imagine experiencing something like that — all the possibilities and what-ifs that would go through his mind. "it was a sixteen year old girl on her phone. we kept thinking about what would have happened if we walked out onto the road." jungkooks voice was quieter now, but it was more relaxing than it was sad or distant. "time is funny that way, always working out however it wants.
