One poem I wrote with @Soggy_Eggosand the other was by myself
1) (with @Soggy_Eggos)
Why Can't I Be Perfect?
Dear Mom,
What do you want from me?
You say you want the laundry done,
You want the dishes clean,
You want the babies watched,
You want my room clean,
And you want it all done at once.
And if I don't,
Well...
I'm dead.
Dear Mom,
What do you want me to get?
You're not pleased with a 95,
You're not pleased with a 100,
You're not even pleased with a 105.
I can't get better than perfect
On every test,
Every assignment,
Every class,
Every choice.
Dear Mom,
Am I not allowed to have secrets?
You wanna know every bit of my personal life.
I know you're just trying to keep me safe,
But not everything is gonna hurt me.
I'm not three,
I'm not six,
I'm not little anymore.
I'm my own person.
Do you not trust my judgement?
Dear Mom,
How do you want me to feel?
Happiness is meant to be brought down,
Sadness shows weakness,
Anger is unnecessary.
But you're a hypocrite.
You punish me for feeling,
But your heart's bigger than you claim.
Your happiness is full of laughter and mockery,
Your sadness is an ocean that we don't dare to explore,
And your anger leaves us shivering.
Dear Mom,
Why am I not good enough?
Dear Mom,
Why do you expect perfect?
Dear Mom,
Why is it always me?
Dear Mom,
Why can't you understand?
Dear Mom,
Why can't you be proud of me?
Dear Mom,
I just want your approval.
Can't you just love me for what I am?
Why don't you help me get better
Instead of telling me why I'm bad.
Why do you always single me out?
You always wanted a perfect daughter
Because you could never be one.
Don't you?
I know you care about me, but isn't
The controlling and being perfect too far?
Dear Mom,
I love you.
You know I do.
But can you let me be my age?
I'm only 13, let me be a child.
You've been looking for perfection,
And I've tried so hard to be it.
Dear Mom,
I'm tired of being perfect.
2) (by myself)
Little boy
You are little now, yelling about trucks
but soon you will be grown
You find words like symphony hard
but soon you will write essays
You see the world as a big, joyful palace for you to parade
Soon you will see it as a cold, dark cave,
always trapped and no light
You run and jump and play
but soon you will sleep and cry.
You will be sad and broken
Do not let tears stream down your face now
growing up isn't...well...
You shouldn't worry now
You should never grow up, but you will
All things grow, with heaight or age
i don't want you to grow up, but you will
you will blossom into a new person than I know
You will soon not be a little boy. you will be a man.
But until that day comes,
you are my little boy, brother.
( I did not use my brother's actual name)
