Sometime later, after breakfast and the dubious task of looking presentable, Paul and Michael bounded down the stairs. “Now, behave yourselves.’ Jim warned them, ‘I’ve told them that you’re both well behaved young men.” “Well, I am. But, with a best friend like John Lennon, how can you expect Paul to be a good little boy?” Michael teased. Paul punched his younger brother on the arm. “Stop it! Now, go on. I’ll see you later.” Jim pushed his sons out of the front door and shut it swiftly behind them. “Shut up about John, Mike.” Paul hissed, looking over at their new neighbours. “Y’know I’m only playing; I like John.” Paul just sighed and led the way to next door. As they got closer, Gerald turned around. “Ah, you two must be Jim’s lads.” “Yes, sir; I’m Paul and this is Mike, me younger brother.” Paul introduced them charmingly. “Very pleased to meet you, sir.” Mike politely added. Gerald smiled and shook their hands. “This is my partner, Paula.” Paula turned around; she was a very pretty woman, with bright blue eyes and brown curly hair. “It’s lovely to meet you too, boys.” She said, also shaking their hands. “Let me introduce our children. Those two rat-bags are my children, Matthew and Ginny. And Paula’s daughter, Louise, should be on her way out in a minute. She just went to get changed.”
They were still chatting to Gerald when he suddenly exclaimed; “Ah! Here she is! She is up and ready to greet the day with a big smile on her face and a positive outlook on life!” “Oh haha; you knew I was awake because I made the removal men a cuppa before.” Louise appeared by Gerald’s side, frowning up at hi,. She was just as pretty as her mother, maybe a little more. Her hair was actually even lighter up close – almost like a milk chocolate shade of brown - and its waves framed her round face perfectly. She had big brown eyes that were so deep Paul felt he’d fall into them any second. “Louise, these are Mr McCartney’s sons – Paul and Michael.” Louise looked from Michael to Paul, whose eyes had fixed on her face. “Hiya!” She said, looking at them both. Her eyes met Paul’s gaze and there they stayed. “What are you all dressed up for?” Gerald asked her, raising an eyebrow at her outfit. Louise kept looking at Paul when she replied; “I was gonna go for a wander, have a look around. Y’know, get to know the place.” “But what if you get lost?” Gerald asked, concerned. Louise laughed, looking up at her stepfather at last. But before she could say anything... “I’ll go with her!” Paul said quickly. Gerald, Louise and Michael all looked at him. “Oh, well... if you don’t mind, Paul...” Gerald said, smiling. “I don’t mind at all. She can meet me mates. I was supposed to be meeting them later. She’ll get along with them like a house on fire.” “Will you be okay on your own, Michael?” Louise asked. “Yeah... I’m used to being left to do the dirty work.” He replied, a touch of scorn in his voice. He glared at Paul, who just grinned guiltily. “Okay, I’ll just go let mam know where I’m going.” She grinned at Paul, who winked and flashed a smile at her. She smiled back and ran back into the house, Gerald right behind her. Michael’s fist suddenly made contact with Paul’s arm. “Ow! What was that for?” Paul yelled, rubbing his arm. “What if I wanted to show her around?” Michael hissed. Paul smiled sympathetically and put a hand on his brother’s shoulder. “Mike, mate, she’s sixteen; almost seventeen. You’ve got no chance.” Michael sighed, knowing it was the truth. Suddenly, Louise rushed out. “Quick. Mam isn’t too keen on you showing me around. She’s heard all sorts about the Teds around here and she can’t make her mind up if you are one or not.” “Louise Harding!” Louise, Paul and Michael all looked at the front door of number 18 and saw Paula standing there. “If you move an inch, you’re in big trouble when I catch you.” Paula yelled. Paul grabbed Louise’s hand and turned to his brother. “See yer later, Mike.” Paul said, winking before he and Louise started running down the road.
