The Secret

(One year ago)

"Evie come on it's not gonna be that bad." Mal was practically dragging Evie into school.

"I don't want to. I haven't seen him all summer." Evie was complaining.

"I'm sure it won't be that bad." Mal tried assuring Evie.

"I wouldn't be that sure." Evie gave Mal a look.

"Just come on Evie." Mal began pulling her into school again.

They got into school and Evie was looking around nervous.

"See. He's not even here." Mal said.

"Really? Then who's that?" Evie pointed at someone, who was making their way towards them.

"Shoot. Okay follow me." Mal pulled Evie's arm again and ran into the girl's locker room.

"So is this gonna be our plan all year?" Evie laughed a little.

"You want me to help him stay away from you?" Mal questioned.

"Yeah I do." Evie slightly nodded.

"Then don't make fun of my plans." Mal pretended to sound mad. "Hold on." Mal looked out to make sure he was gone.

"Hey Mal." Someone said. 

Mal looked up and saw Ben standing there. "Ben!" Mal yelled surprised and loud enough for Evie to hear.

"Have you seen Evie anywhere? I really want to talk to her." Ben questioned.

"No. No I haven't." Mal lied and shut the door behind her as she walked out.

"I just wanted to talk to her and tell her I'm over her. I don't have a crush on her anymore. I actually met someone." Ben explained to Mal.

"Really? Ben that's amazing!" Mal said.

"Thanks Mal. So if you see Evie can you let her know?" Ben asked.

"Of course I will." Mal nodded happily.

"Great thanks." Ben smiled and walked away.

Mal quickly ran back into the girl's locker room. "Evie! Evie I have great news!"

"What? What is?" Evie ran over to Mal.

"Ben's moved on. He met someone over the summer. So he's not into you anymore." 

"Oh." Evie replied not smiling. 

"What wrong? Isn't this a good thing?" Mal looked confused.

"What? Oh no yeah! No it is. It's just weird how fast he moved on." Evie explained.

"Who cares? I move on from things really fast." Mal replied. "Now come on we don't want to be late for our first class."

(At lunch)

"Evie!" Mal ran up to her.

"What? What?" Evie was asking looking at Mal scared.

"You remember that guy I've been texting?" Mal questioned.

"Yeah. What about them?" Evie looked up from her lunch.

"He said he goes to this school." Mal said.

"And you still don't his name?" Evie checked.

"Nope." Mal answered.

"How is it that you've been texting this guy for almost two months and you still don't know his name?" Evie wondered.

"I don't know. That doesn't matter." Mal replied sitting across from her.

"Pretty sure it does." Evie mumbled.
