A Secret Crush

The Breakup

(Four years ago)

"We're really gonna miss you man." Jay was telling someone. 

"I'm gonna miss you guys too." They replied hugging Jay. "Especially you." They walked up to Evie and took her hands.

"Do you really have to leave? Right as we're going into 7th grade?" Evie asked.

"I do, but you'll be okay." They assured her. 

"Okay. Bye Mike." Evie hugged him, then he walked away.

(Later)

Evie was in her room sitting on the floor and leaning against her bed while she was looking at a picture of her and Mike. Then there was a knock on her door. 

"Come in!" Evie called out.

The door slowly opened and Ben walked in. 

"Ben? What are you doing here?" Evie stood up and sat on her bed instead and put the picture down.

"You're mom let me in." Ben stated. "How are you doing?" 

"You mean about Mike leaving?" Evie checked.

"Yeah." Ben nodded walking over to her.

"Well I'm sad, but I have you guys. Plus it wasn't a real relationship." Evie was answering.

"Yeah. We are going to be here for you." Ben said and sat beside her.

"Thanks Ben." Evie smiled, then her face got sad again and she looked down. 

"Sure." Ben stated looking down too.

(First day of 7th grade)

"Alright everyone get together." Ben's mom said as they were all taking pictures together.

"So Ben?" Jay said wrapping an arm around Ben after they took the pictures.

"What's up?" Ben replied.

"You like her?" Jay wondered.

"Who? Evie?" Ben asked.

"Yeah, dummy." Jay joked.

"I mean, eh." Ben gave a shrug.

"Ben don't lie to me. I see how you look at her. You were there for her when Mike left. I'm not dumb." Jay explained.

"No, yeah I know, but please don't tell anyone. Plus it's a small little crush." Ben said.

"You got it bro." Jay patted Ben's back. 

(A year later)

"Evie?" Ben said as he walked up to her at their usual table.

"Hi Ben. What's up?" Evie looked up at him with a smile. 

"You want to go to the dance with me? Just as friends of course." Ben questioned, then assured her.

"Sure Ben." Evie's smile got bigger.

(At the dance)

Ben and Evie walked in and saw everyone dancing. Then a slow song came on. 

"You wanna dance?" Ben offered his hand.

"Sure Ben." Evie laughed a little, then took his hand. 

Evie rested her head on Ben's shoulder and Ben's heart started beating fast. 

(Freshman year)

"Evie, look who cares about what they say? You're beautiful. You don't need any of those guys." Ben was telling her.
