It all started with a sixteen-year-old boy named Liam James Payne from Wolverhampton who swore he was straight. It also started with a sixteen-year-old boy named Zayn Javadd Malik from Bradford who thought the same.
After they met at the auditions, they seemed to run into each other all the time. No matter if inside the house or when they were out. It was like faith pulled them together. All those coincidences were shy smiled. Not knowing how to act since they didn't know more about each other than their names and that they kind of fell in love with the voice of the other. There was nothing more to it.
One day the young Liam wanted to go to McDonald's. On his way in he texted his mother Karen who was worried sick about her little boy being away from home. In the meantime, the back haired beauty balanced his food to a clean table next to the entrance where Liam was entering. It was bound to happen. Liam ran into Zayn. The slightly older one was not muscular at all and couldn’t help but fall when the much bulkier boy ran into him. So, the only thing that came to his mind was to grip whatever was near him so he might prevent the fall. But Liam wasn't prepared to hold someone. So, they both fell and the burger that Zayn tried to open while walking, squished between them.
As Zayn hit ground, he let out cry of pain. Liam looked at Zayn wide eyed. Immediately he started to mumble apologies and tried to wipe the yellow mustard that now stained Zayn's black shirt only making it worse. His shirt didn't look better. Ketchup was smeared all over it. The raven-haired boy was still shocked but also apologised and try to wiggle out under Liam which was not possible because well he was just too heavy. As soon as he noticed that, he tried to get off of Zayn as elegant as he could.
He stood there looking like a mess and stared down at the smaller boy who didn't look any different other than he looked pained. So, Liam's first intention was to hold out his hand to help Zayn up, but he rejected it by standing up alone. Like a kicked puppy Liam took his hand back. He only wanted to be friendly but the other one didn't seem to want that. “I am sorry. Did I hurt you? My name is Liam by the way. 'm going to buy you a new meal.” He started to speak fast without taking a breath.
Zayn was utterly overstrained so he just blinked rapidly, trying to process what just happened. After a while he answers. “You don't have to. I could've watched out. 's my fault. Gonna go” he mumbled with his rich accent, trying to move past Liam. But said boy was faster and gripped his hand.
“No let me buy you a meal please” “But I can't pay you back. I don't need it. 'm not that hungry” Zayn tried to say but his stomach interrupted him with a growling. “Nope. I will listen to your tummy. Now come on and order whatever you want to eat.” “My name is Zayn.” “I know your name” Liam answered barely audible trying to not sound like a creep. Little did he know that Zayn actually heard it and thought ‘I knew yours too’ while smiling at the ground.
When they reached the front, Liam asked Zayn what he would like to eat. Of course, Zayn didn't actually say what he wanted and tried to just order a hamburger, but the humble Wolverhamptoner didn't take that as an order and ordered a McChicken Classic Menu with Curly Fries and a Coke. Why he was so certain about the burger?
He saw Zayn eyeing the burger on the menu and he was right. Zayn would've loved that one but he just didn't have enough money to buy it. His first intention was to argue with the other boy, but he knew that he had no chance at all. All he could do was to take his meal and thank Liam, who himself ordered a BigMac and a happy meal just to get the Batman figure in it.
The look the cashier gave Liam was simply hilarious and the black-haired beauty bursted out laughing. He just couldn't help it, it was simply to funny. The dork, who ordered, cracked him a smile while blushing madly. Still red-faced Liam took all the stuff he ordered and Zayn's hand.
“C'mon let's eat somewhere else.” The boy from Bradford just nodded and followed Liam out of the fast-food restaurant to the small car of said boy. Like a gentleman Liam opened the car door for Zayn and closed it when Zayn was seated. Then he walked around the car and got into the driver seat. The black-haired angle next to him, took his food. Liam started the car and slipped out of the parking lot, luckily, without embarrassing himself for once.
“Would you like to eat outside, watching the sunset or rather inside in my flat?” “Sunset if that is possible” Zayn answers wasn't really more than a whisper but it was loud enough for Liam to hear. He smiled softly. “Is the park okay? I think I still have a blanket in the boot. God, that sounds like I am a fuckboy constantly keeping some romantic stuff in my car to win girls over. I promise I am not like that. Like honestly, I never really had a girlfriend. Well that doesn't make it better. I didn't mean it in the way that-“ Liam’s rambling got interrupted by Zayn. “Park sounds perfect.”
The rambling boy blushed and drove to his favourite park. He found a nice spot in the parking lot and got out of the car. The car door on Zayn’s side was opened by Liam before Zayn even tried to get out. The latter boy smiled shyly and got out while Liam looked for the blanket in the boot of the car. Zayn closed the car door softly, with their food in his hands and waited for the Wolverhamptoner lad who finally found the blanket, closed the trunk of the car and locked it.
“Come with me, I will show you where you can see the sunset the best.” Both boys walked trough the park, admiring the beauty of the nature while there were only a few other people around. Soon they reached a small hill where they could look over the, sun kissed, orange tinted, city.
Liam put the blanket on the ground, sat down and raised his hand towards Zayn. “Sit down Zee” Both boys widened their eyes when Liam let that nickname slip. The second time that night he started mumbling various versions of apologies, but Zayn just takes the hand of the blushing boy and sits down next to him.
He sets the Happy Meal down in the middle of them, gives Liam his food and leaves his own in front of him. Liam tries to grab the Happy Meal, but Zayn is faster and opens it. He takes out the Capri Sun and the Applebag. Then he smiles up to Liam. “Can I have those?” Of course, Liam allowed him to because who could resist that sweet smile?
Then he got out the small Batman figure and bites his lip. Should he give this to Zayn? He didn't want to seem silly but it was too late anyway. Liam embarrassed himself already so what does it matter. While Zayn is distracted by the sunset, Liam takes out a small pen he got in his jacket and writes a small note on a napkin. ´Hey I liked tonight. You can text me if you want to. No Homo tho. +44 004246030737' He wraps the little figure in it and hides it when Zayn turns to him. The lad from Wolverhampton planned on slipping it in the pocket of Zayn's jacket. He was way too shy to give it him.
It may sound like he is lovesick teenager, but he got rejected and made fun of so often. For him it is just easier to not do it in person.
“- like I do…” Liam was completely zoned out, but he did not want to let Zayn know that. So, he just nodded. Now say something intelligent. “You know what? I have never been on a date before because there is this girl I really liked, and she rejected me 22 times by now. Not that this is a date. I am not gay tho, but if you are that’s cool. You know I am not homophobic, but I just don't like you that way. I a-“ “God Liam stop rambling. You didn't offend me. I just asked if you get nervous on xFactor… Yes, I noticed you did not listen to me” Zayn giggled lightly.
It is kind of endearing how goofy the boy is. The boy from Bradford turned his attention to the slowly sinking sun and didn't notice when Liam slipped the Batman figure with the napkin into his pocket. Both were eating in silence, occasionally stealing glances at each other. Too afraid to say something they just stay quiet, trying not to disturb the other.
For other people it must've looked awkward. There are two boys with red and yellow stained shirts, sitting on a blanket, eating in complete silence, while watching the sun disappear.
