To us, my darling.
To all of the times we stood up for each other.
To the times where simply being in each other's company was enough.
To the simplicity of sitting in a tree together.
To the time when you lost your phone in the grass and didn't leave it behind.
To the time when I stayed with you all night. To us.
I promise to you that we will remain together.
Never leaving each other's side.
I'll paint, and you'll keep me company.
You'll play, and I'll join in.
We'll run away together.
Get married on a whim, just like Billie-Joe and Adrienne did.
Explore the world together.To us.
Through our various changes, we still remain the same inside.
From one to another, now both remaining genderless minds.
The days spent curled up in bed together will be worth the wait.
Constantly clutching the silver band strung against my neck will be calming.
And touching the one on your finger will be a reminder of our lives together. To us.
Remember when I had no idea who you were?
Just a girl, watching her phone, handing out candy to trick-or-treaters.
After our brief talk, we never really spoke again.
Until we did.
I never recognised you.
Not until you came over to my house and saw my old Halloween dress.
And just like that,
A flow of memories.
There must have been a reason for that.To us, my darling.
I promise I'll never leave your side.
Yeah, sappy love poems might not be my strong suit. But this is roughly what my wedding speech would most likely be. I hope it never really changes.
This poem is another one to my wonderful partner, who came out as NB recently. The joke is that now we match. Ethan, I love you. And whether you decide to change again or not, I love you for who you are.
