My heavy feet dragged me away from the piano, pulled me across the large house, gravitating towards the casino in the middle. A loud beeping came from the casino, well, somewhat of a casino. More of a life-like prop. As soon as I sat down in front of the "casino", the beeping stopped. I scanned where the beeping might have been coming from, landing on the large spinning, sign that read "Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino". On the back of the sign in all caps it read 'NEW MEMBER'. I quickly pressed the button under the desk and soon a loud, booming voice echoed through the resort,
"WELCOME TO TRANQUILITY BASE, TAKE IT EASY FOR A LITTLE WHILE" I threw myself down the hall, rushing to the door. The double-doors fly open, and an overlook of the hotel & casino coming into play. Bright reds, yellows, oranges, and purples flood the scenery of the relatively large hotel, flashing yellows over the adult pool, music softly playing for the swimmers. I was almost immediately hypnotized by the athletes opposite ways of doing laps. Backstrokes, front strokes, Breaststrokes, even freestyle.
My attention was quickly snapped from the distant pool when a small green tree's leaves started falling, turning orange. A soft sigh comes from my mouth as I head back inside, closing the french doors, not wanting it to get too cold inside. Sometimes I forget when the seasons change, the main reason being: my head is always trying to run the mile the fastest, wanting to beat the other daydreamers. Most of my closest friends would infer that my thoughts usually do win, by a long slide.
My slightly clammy hands pressed the overweight door that leads out into the casino open, causing me to almost trip. An uncontrollable curse came out of my mouth and I snapped my head left and right, not wanting anyone to hear. The rather large casino was loud and full of excitement, everyone too busy planning their next move, wanting to win the biggest prize. I quickly walk through the drunk, sweaty people, not really wanting to interfere with any of their winnings.
"Matt, can I please have a margarita?" I mumbled, sliding my hands away, staring at the granite bar table, grasping the sides. Matt nodded after searching my face for the reason of my slightly sour attitude.
"Just a loss of sleep, that's all"
"Ok, whatever you say" He stated, I almost missed it from the loud clanking of the ice in the margarita shaker. Usually, I wouldn't have to inform him on my drink of choice, he is my best friend for god sake. Matt has been the bartender here for a little over a year, well since this place opened. A few random thoughts popped into my head at once, overwhelming me more than normal.
"Here's your order" He quickly jokes, reaching out and playfully tapping on my shoulder with the tips of his fingers.
Doesn't time fly?
I pinched the small part of the glass, almost in a joking way. The flavorful, rather colorful drink hit my tongue, washing any previous stress or worry down the drain.
"You should drink less, it's not-" My head quickly shot up, giving him half a death stare, he's obviously correct, I just can't admit it.
I don't wanna be nice, and you know that
"I know, I know. It's all I have right now" My eyes slightly hung, making Matt a little bit blurry.
"What about me?" He fakes being offended, classic Matt.
"You're always working, I don't want to distract you from your craft"
"I can't make drinks any better than you"
"Matt," A short pause falling between us, my brain suddenly blanking "I can only make one drink: margaritas. That's it" Half way through my sentence, I lifted my left hand up in a loose fist. When the word margarita slipped from my lips, I let my fingers unravel, creating a flimsy high-five.
"I guess that's a fair point" Matt softly sighed, someone signaling him on the other end of the bar. Before he walked away, my eyebrows softly raised, my head ever so slightly tilting in the opposite direction. The hand that was previously 'holding' the fragile glass quickly grabbed it again, leading it back up to my mouth.
