"Annabeth, stop being so stubborn!" I groaned out.

The girl in question huffed, pushing a strand of blonde hair behind her ear. "I'm not being stubborn, I'm being logical! What reason is there behind learning how to swim?"

"You're on a cruise and the ship starts sinking," I offered.

"I'd get on a raft," she deadpanned

"All the rafts are full."

"I'd kiss some guy and take his place, Titanic style."

"All the guys are gay and the girls are straight."

"I'd accept my fate and hope Poseidon is feeling merciful."

I rolled my eyes. "Annabeth, you're fifteen years old. You need to learn how to swim."

She crossed her arms and blushed. "You really want to teach me?"

I grinned. "It'll be so fun. Come on, get dressed and meet me outside of my cabin in ten minutes."

After rushing back to Cabin 3 and throwing on my blue swim trunks and a fresh camp tee-shirt, and grabbing two spare towels, I thought about what I had gotten myself into.

Seeing as Annabeth was a) a child of Athena, and b) seven years old when she left her parents, she never learned how to swim. In all of our summers hanging out together, I had always brushed off the fact that she was insanely apprehensive about swimming, and that she always pulled out an excuse when I suggested the idea of going for a swim. But, with the temperature nearing 100 degrees Fahrenheit and my fifteenth birthday nearing, I found no reason that Annabeth couldn't join me for a swim.

"Wow, if I didn't know any better, I'd think you couldn't swim."

She hesitated. "Er, I - "

"Can you swim, Annabeth?"

She bit her lip. "Maybe?"

"Wait, seriously? You cant swim? Why not?"

Annabeth shrugged. "Nobody ever bothered to teach me, and I didn't see a reason to learn."

"I'll teach you," I blurted out.

She rose an eyebrow. "Why would you do that?"

I felt my cheeks heat up. "I like helping people," I quickly spat out. "And, uh, I also like spending time with you. So it's basically a double whammy."

"That's really sweet of you, Perce, but I don't think I could learn this late in my life."

I shook my head. "Tons of girls your age come to the pool where I work for lessons, and eventually are able to swim half as well as I can."

Annabeth narrowed her eyes. "They're probably just there to get lessons from you, Seaweed Brain."

I blushed. "Either way, I taught them, so I can teach you."
