Just a lil quick oneshot I whipped up half way through my 5 hour car ride. Enjoy!

Loving someone who would never love you back was absolutely the worst thing in the world.

I had feelings for this guy. He had jet black hair, shimmering sea green eyes, tanned skin, and a stunning six foot figure. He had the warmest, kindest smile, and spoke fluent sarcasm. Percy Jackson was a hottie and he didn't even know it.

We were basically best friends, which I think hurt more than if he never acknowledged me. Since we were so close, he told me a lot about his life. What troubled him day to day, something stupid he said to a teacher that almost got him suspended, and worst of all, the girls he was catching feelings for.

However, there was only ever one girl he talked about constantly. Sure, he mentioned how beautiful Sierra Morse looked homecoming night, and how Brianna Rider had a stunning singing voice, but there was one girl that seemed to pull him in like a magnet.

"She's the smartest girl I know," Percy told me one day, "and she's gorgeous too. She's got a killer body, that's for sure. Her eyes are so enticing, and her smile just reels me in. It sucks that she doesn't like me, and I know that she doesn't like me, but I keep going back for more."

I stirred my ice with my straw. "Yeah, I get what you're talking about."

The second my eyes met his, I couldn't look way. Percy looked like a lovesick puppy. Somehow, he appeared both extremely happy and insanely distraught as he talked about the girl he admired most.

"You'll have to meet her sometime. I know you technically met her once, back last summer, but you hardly had time to talk seeing as I had just blown up half of the high school."

"We were together in the Labyrinth," I pointed out.

"Yeah, true, but I think we were all focused on staying alive rather than friendly introductions," Percy stated.

I chuckled, brushing a strand of my hair from my face. "You're not wrong.'

Percy and I were hanging out in a local coffee shop, trying to vaccinate ourselves for the rest of the sunny summer Sunday. We had plans to go to the park with one of our best friends.

"Maybe the next time we hang out, I can invite her down too. Then we can all be together."

I tried to smile, but I think it came out as more of a grimace. "Sounds great. How about next weekend?"

Percy nodded, grinning. "It'll be perfect."

The week flew by faster than I wanted it to. With the amazing summer weather, Percy and I were spending every day at the beach together. I could tell he was anxious - his sixteenth birthday was approaching rather quickly - so I was trying to keep his mind off of it.

But Saturday came and it was time for me to spend time with my crush's crush.

Percy told me to meet him at George's, our favorite café, and he would arrive at 10:30 after picking up the girl of the weekend.

I sat at a booth, facing the door so I would see the two teens walk in. I played with my fingers as I waited for them to arrive.

Ten minutes later, I spotted a familiar mop of black hair walking toward the café, beside a familiar face. He was talking up a storm, and looking over at her every couple moments to see if she was laughing. She was, of course, because Percy was the funniest guy I knew.

By the time they made it to the restaurant, the girl was cackling. Percy held the door for her and she stepped inside. Her ringing laughter filled the building and I gave ger a once over.

She had on a pair of white Converse hightops, denim shorts, and an orange tee shirt. She looked to be about 5' 8", a solid 3 inches taller than me. With collarbone length, emaculant curls and stoic eyes, the model-like girl was everything I would never be.

At that moment, all hope I had of ever getting with Percy Jackson was gone.

Percy and his dream girl walked over to the booth I was at, both of them smiling happily.

"Hey," Percy greeted me.

I waved. "Hi."

The girl's smile had slightly dropped, and I knew why, but I still didn't get it. She seemed intimidated, but how? Percy and I were just friends, and that's all we'd ever be. I knew that now.

Maybe I should be mean, I thought. Try to scare her off so that I get Percy to myself.

But I knew, deep in my heart, that he would always chase after her.

So I put on my best smile, stuck out my hand, and said, "Hey, Annabeth, it's good to see you."
