{In honor of the fact that the holidays are just around the corner and in the story, just a matter of weeks! One of my favorite parts of the holidays are when my Mom bakes cookies and my siblings and I get to help. Once she is done icing her portion, she teaches us. Its so much fun and she is absolutely amazing!}
Brooke's POV
I smiled to myself as I admired the freshly decorated house. A dark green garland rested on the tops of the two sets of railings, little fake berries and tiny ornaments mixed in. Above the fireplace were several stockings, one for each member of the family. The best of them all was the fake Christmas tree standing tall and proud in the family room.
By far, Christmas was my favorite holiday. Though it wouldn't be for another few weeks that we would sit around the tree, watching as the children opened their gifts, I always decorated early. It was what I grew up with.
"Mommy, we're home!" Tessa squealed as she walked through the door, Lilah and Oliver following behind with Niall.
"Hi honey, how was school?" I asked, listening carefully as the three told me every detail about their morning.
"And I made a new friend too. Her name is, um, I think it's Abigail maybe, or Audrey. I'm not really sure, but she's really nice!" Tessa said as she took off her light pink jacket, making me laugh.
"Well, I just finished making a batch of cookies if you guys want to help decorate. You just have to keep it down because Jimmy and Ava are napping."
I watched as a huge smile appeared on all three of their faces. "I like cookies," Oliver said with wide eyes.
"I know you do, that's why you get to decorate," I smiled, lifting him up and placing him on a chair.
I walked over to the opposite side of the counter, grabbing a bag of icing so I could show them how to do it, or at least try to. Picking up a bag of white icing and a sugar cookie in the shape of a snowflake, I began to ice. Carefully, I placed a slight amount of pressure on the bag, allowing thin strips of icing to come out, painting a border along the cookie. Once I was finished, I opened up the decorating sugar. With a spoon, I scooped a little bit out of the container and sprinkled it along the edges of the cookie, allowing it to fall on top of the icing.
"Do you get what to do now?" I questioned.
"Yes, yes, yes!" Tessa squealed right as Ava and Jimmy both began to cry.
"I'll be right back, don't make a mess," I said as they began.
Quickly, I walked up the stairs and into the light blue nursery where Ava and Jimmy laid in their little cradles.
"I'll get Jimmy," Niall said, walking in behind me, making me jump since I didn't know he was following me up the stairs.
I took a seat in the rocking chair, taking Ava in my arms. Quickly, she began to calm down. As she opened her eyes, her crystal blue eyes came to view. She got them from Niall for sure. I smiled to myself as Niall walked over to me with a now calmed down Jimmy.
"The best part is, they are all ours. Our beautiful five children, Ava, Tessa, and Lilah look like you. The gorgeous eyes, the small lips, the cute tiny noise," Niall grinned as I stood up.
"The eyes are all yours on all five," I replied as he planted a quick soft and sweet kiss on my lips.
Running my hands through my long brown hair, I spoke up.
"I think we should go back downstairs. We left the three little crazy monkeys in the kitchen with bags of colorful icing," I giggled.
Niall and I walked out of the room, side by side with Jimmy and Ava in our hands. I could hear the laughter of the children getting louder and louder as we came closer. Reluctantly, I peaked my head around the corner and made my way down the last few stairs.
"Mommy, look at my picture. Isn't it pretty?" Ollie questioned.
I looked down at his cookie, no icing. It was almost as if it was a blank slate in the world of art.
"Ollie, what are you talking about?"
"We face painted!" He squealed.
I looked up with wide eyes at the two girls. Both sat tall and proud with big grins and paint smeared among their faces.
"I'm an Elf," Tessa explained.
"Yeah, I'm Rudolph. There wasn't a lot of brown left, so Ollie did dots and a red noise, I think. I'm trusting him that it looks good," Lilah added on.
I wasn't sure whether to be mad at the mess and scold Ollie for putting icing on them, or too break out in laughter. Instead, I stared at them with wide eyes and my jaw hung open.
"Oh my god," I said before breaking into laughter with Niall.
"Do you want me to paint you too?" Oliver questioned.
"No thanks Ollie, I'm good," I chuckled.
Niall grabbed Ava from my hands so he was now holding both of the twins. "Come on kiddos, we need to get you washed up," I said, the three frosting covered children following behind me to the bathroom. I grabbed a wet cloth, gently wiping the icing off of both of the girls faces, followed by washing the hands of Oliver.
"Can we have Bailey over soon?" Lilah asked once I was finished cleaning them all.
"And Penelope!" Tessa added on.
"Leo too! Let's have everyone over," Ollie said.
"We will have everyone over for Christmas, don't worry. Maybe later this week or next week Uncle Harry and Aunt Riley can come over. Also, Uncle Louis and Aunt El can come. I know they would love to come over as well," I suggested.
"That would be fun!" Tessa smiled.
"Brooke, what do we want for dinner tonight?" Niall asked as I walked back into the kitchen, the children playing in the family room.
I took Ava from his hands, cradling her back and forth.
"You can cook whatever you want, just don't let it burn and forget about it again," I laughed.
"Hey, that was a one time thing!"
"Okay Nialler, whatever you say."
