Rogue's POV

"Rogue?" Thorn asks as she scans the menu in her hands. I glance up and raise an eyebrow.

"What's up?" I respond, tilting my head curiously.

"Why does Gabriel dislike you so much?" she asks, looking up. Her deep blue eyes flicker with innocent curiosity and her light brown hair looks gilded in the soft light.

I shift in my seat slightly and grimace. "An old family feud. It's nothing." I reply, only half lying.

Thorn frowns slightly. "You guy still shouldn't let that stuff influence how you treat each other. It can't be healthy to scowl that much on a daily basis."

I let out a snort of amusement and shake my head. "Don't worry, love. It won't go past scowling and the occasional insult." 'Yet.'

Thorn doesn't look convinced, but lets the subject drop.

The rest of the night goes off without a hitch, both of us going our separate ways after dinner.

I stumble into my darkened loft and slump to the ground with a sigh. "Thank fuck today is Friday. I don't think I could've handled another day of school without killing someone." I mutter to myself, stretching my back languidly.

With a put-upon sigh, I stand and glare at the pile of fur that has stationed itself in front of my feet. "What am I gonna do with you, Lucifer?" I ask quietly, scooping up the jet black ball of fluff.

Lucifer lets out an unhelpful meow and continues looking at me with judging green eyes.

"Is having a conversation with a cat part of your usual schedule, or did I interrupt your crazy time?" a condescending voice chuckles behind me, slight amusement coloring its tone.

I whirl around, Lucifer flying out of my arms like a furry rocket. He lands with a hiss and darts beneath the couch.

Gabriel stands there with his hands jammed in his pockets and a jaunty smirk firmly in place. His massive wings glow with a slight golden light from where he has them folded behind him.

I stare at them bitterly for a moment then turn my stare to their owner. "What do you want, Gabriel." I snap, a sneer twisting my lips. "I shouldn't have to look at your ugly face again till Monday."

Gabriel sighs and tuts. "Now, now, Angel. We shouldn't stoop so low as to resort to name calling."

"Don't call me Angel, asshole." I growl, my eyes narrowing to snake-like slits. My fingers twitch towards the knife I have stashed in my waistband and my thoughts turn from sleepy and sluggish to murderous in a split second.

Gabriel simply shrugs and crosses his arms across his chest, looking serious. "I've been ordered to make sure you aren't planning another rebellion anytime soon. You know how it is."

"No, I don't, so why don't you fucking spell it out for me. I make a single mistake that cost me my wings, and I'm suddenly the mother fucking ringleader?!" I hiss, venom coating my words. The temperature drops and frost begins forming at Gabriel's feet. His breath starts forming clouds and his skin turns about 5 shades paler than normal, but I don't care.

He has no right.

His lips turn purple and his wings wrap around him like a blanket which enrages me further. I shouldn't have lost my wings for standing up for what was right. Free will, yeah? I think the fuck not. Stand up against Heaven and lose everything.

Gabriel glares my way, albeit weakly, and disappears, quick as a blink.

The temperature rises just as quickly as it dropped and the frost disappears as quickly as it had appeared.

I drop to my knees, suddenly drained, and let out a shuddering breath. A warm weight settles on my knees and I look up to see Lucifer staring at me, his paw on my thigh and his tail wrapped gently around my forearm.

I wrap my arms around his soft body and bury my face in his fur. "Thanks, buddy." I whisper, feeling his soft purrs against my cheek.

I stay like this until the morning sun rises behind me, a new beginning to a bleak and dark story.

Yo! Hopefully this wasn't crap. A friend of mine was really pushing for an update, so here it is, chickadee. Hope y'all enjoyed! I purple you!💜💜
