"Rogue? Are you even listening to me?" my friend Alice whines, tugging at one of the sea green strands in my onyx black hair.
I bat her hand away and shrug. "Not really." I yawn, stretching my arms above my head
She looks offended for all of a second before shrugging with a grin. "At least you're honest." she sighs playfully.
Her cerulean eyes lock onto something beyond my shoulder and I flick my gaze in that direction, already knowing what to expect.
She's been crushing on Gabriel, the school track star, for about a month now and Gabriel is oblivious. Meanwhile, Alice is so obvious that it's surprising that she just doesn't hit him with a brick that says, 'I like you!' to get her message across.
"Hey Alice. How many questions were there on our Chem homework last night?" Gabriel asks, coming up beside me with his best friend, Michael in tow.
"T-twelve." Alice stutters, her fair face turning an alarming shade of crimson.
I pointedly ignore both of the males beside me and glare at the wall, my fingers itching for a weapon of some kind.
The Archangels have some nerve, sending these two to watch after the Fallen in this area. We are perfectly capable of not burning the world to a pathetic fiery husk, thank you very much.
After the Fall, the Fallen, me excluded, went on a trouble binge-so to speak. They basically made monkeys of themselves.
Amusing to watch, Hell to live through.
Gabriel and Michael nod and leave, but not before Michael levels a pointed stare in my direction.
I subtly flip him off and mouth, 'Fuck you.' in his direction.
He looks afronted and mouths back, 'Not if your life depended on it.'
I pull a disgusted face and turn back to Alice. "What's with the face?" she asks.
"Had to sneeze, but then I didn't. I would really like to write a letter to sneezes saying, 'Dear Sneezes, if you're going to happen, happen. Don't plaster a stupid look on my face then disappear. Sincerely, Me, Myself, & I.' " I snark off, rolling my sea green eyes at my own lame response.
Alice has no clue that I'm a Fallen Angel. Has no clue that we even exist, and I would like to keep it that way. She's way too pure to know about something as fucked up as that.
"Hey Rogue?" Alice asks, suddenly sounding shy and smug at the same time.
I mentally groan and, hating myself, ask, "Yes, my sweet and innocent little friend?"
She smirks and whispers, "I've heard from a friend of a friend that Michael likes you. What do you think?"
I stare at her for a second before replying. "I think that you are on drugs my friend, and not the good kind." I tell her, rolling my eyes.
"Okay, but why are you so against him? He's so...perfect for you. All muscly and broody and stuff. It's a match made in heaven."
"Seriously dude. Where can I get the stuff that you're on, because that shit is strong." I deadpan, raising an eyebrow in her direction.
She sighs in defeat and glares at me, her dark brown eyebrows pulled low over her eyes. I then wheel around to start walking backwards.
"Enough about him. What about you and Gabriel?" I ask, wanting nothing more than to get out of this conversation. Alice's face turns every shade of red before settling on a dark pink. "He-I-We're-Uh..." she stammers, clearly at a loss for words.
She clears her throat and straightens her spine. "Nothing. There's nothing going on between us. He just barely knows of my existence, and that's because we're partners in Chem." she explains, pain and longing in her eyes.
I sigh and pat her shoulder. "Then use that time to talk and get close to him...When the teacher isn't looking of course, because let's face it, Mrs. Lou is terrifying if you piss her off." I say, blowing a strand of hair out of my face almost absently.
She giggles and runs her hands through her long, dark brown hair. "Yeah, okay." she replies, smiling her usual bright grin.
"What are you doing after school?" she asks after a few moments of silence. I glance at her, startled and hesitate in replying.
"Come on, Rogue! You're so freaking secretive about your life outside of school, that it's like you don't even exist." Alice whines. My eye twitches and I blow out a gust of air.
"I just don't like talking about my private life, that's all." I grumble, tugging my lower lip in between my teeth. I live a dangerous life outside of school, one filled with ashes and blood. Alice can't be a part of that life. Alice huffs and drops the subject, mercifully, and starts to babble on about what her moron of a brother has done lately...Well, more like who he has done lately. That boy would flirt with a stump if it had boobs.
Just imagine Rogue as a female Percy Jackson with sea green highlights and Alice as Alice from Sword Art Online: Alicization with dark brown hair instead of blonde hair.
