Axel's POV
I open my eyes and see that it's dark out. I look around for my phone to check the time, when I hear someone groan beside me.
I freeze, and look up to see a peacefully sleeping Jayden. He had his arm around around my waist, while my head was on his chest, and an arm and leg slung over his torso. I was basically straddling him.
I slowly remove myself from him, and replace myself with a pillow. I look at my phone to see that it's 10:00. I should wake Jayden up.
"Pssst, Jayden" I whisper, in attempt to wake him up. He doesn't stir so I shake him a little.
"Jayden, it's late. You need to go home" I say a little louder while shaking him, as he starts to stir. He slowly opens his eyes and blinks a few times, lifting his head up to look around. His eyes settle on me and he rests his head back on the couch.
He looks at me, "Hey" he says as he smiles lazily up at me.
"Hi" I say and blush a little at his deep, husky voice. It's raspy yet soothing.
"What time is it?" he asks.
"10:00. You should head home, your parents are probably worried" I reply, as he picks up his phone.
"Shoot, 8 missed calls. Hey, could I stay the night? Since we're hanging out tomorrow after school anyways, we can carpool to school and back?" He asks with a hopeful look.
For some reason, I don't want him to leave "Yeah sure, I use the guest bedroom as a storage, so you can have my bed and I'll take the couch"
He looks at me questioningly and I freeze at my slip of tongue. "I mean we, me and my parents. We use the guest bedroom as a storage. Yep" I say and internally slap myself at how awkward that cover up was.
He looks at me quizzically but smiles nonetheless, "Thanks, but you're taking the bed. I'll give my mom a call then, you head on up"
I frown, "I can't let a guest take the couch. That's rude"
He smirks, "Then why don't we share the bed then?"
I blush, "Well if you don't mind..." I say quietly.
"Wait really? And here I thought I'd need to use my puppy dog eyes" he smiles, and I smile back.
"Yeah, why not? If you're okay with it that is" I say timidly. I don't want him to be uncomfortable, since sharing a bed with a guy could be weird for him.
"Yeah, that'd be nice. I need to give my mom a call first to let her know I'm not dead, I'll meet you up there"
I nod, and head upstairs. I plop onto my bed with a sigh of content, letting sleep overcome me once more.
Jayden's POV
"JAYDEN SCOTT WILLIAMS WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN AND WHY HAVEN'T YOU CALLED ME BACK TIL NOW? I THOUGHT YOU WERE DEAD IN A DITCH AND I WAS ABOUT TO CALL THE COPS" I pull the phone away from my ear as I head my mom yell.
"Hey mom, I'm sorry. I went to a friend's house after practice and fell asleep" I said, my voice laced with guilt. I didn't mean to worry her, I lost track of time. Now I feel bad for what I'm about to ask.
"It's okay honey, sorry for yelling at you like that. We were just so worried"
"I'm really sorry mom, but could I stay the night? It's late anyways and I don't feel comfortable driving back in the dark" I say, though I feel guilty for asking. I worried her to death, and now I'm not even coming home.
"Yeah that's fine. I wouldn't want you driving back in the dark anyways, it's too dangerous" she says with a sigh.
"Thanks mom, I love you. Tell dad goodnight for me, and I'll see you tomorrow okay?"
"Okay honey, sleep well. We love you" she says and I smile as I hang up the phone. I head upstairs and realize that I don't know which room is Axel's. Luckily, I see a lump on the bed on the first door I open.
I smile at his sleeping face, as he snores quietly through his slightly parted lips. I get into the bed next to him and pull him by his waist to my chest, so that I'm spooning him. I feel him snuggling closer into me and I smile. I snuggle my face in his hair and breathe in the smell that I've grown to love.
I've known who Axel was since freshmen year, but we've never talked before. We've had classes together every semester since the beginning of highschool, but we never got paired up for projects so I never had any opportunities to talk to him. I always thought he was a quiet, timid kid who keeps to himself and doesn't like to socialize with others too much. Although he seemingly didn't have anything noticeable about him, my eyes always drifted to him whenever we were in the halls, in class or in the cafeteria.
I never knew what made me so attracted to him, but I just was. Bewildered doesn't even begin to describe how I felt when Mr. Falcon came up to me and asked if I could tutor Axel. Axel was always at the top of his classes, so you could see why I thought he was joking when he asked me to tutor Axel.
Sure, I know I'm not dumb myself, since the only person I know who gets better grades than me was Axel. I asked Mr. Falcom to confirm if what I heard was right, or if I was just hearing things. He said that he didn't need me to necessarily teach him things from scratch, just to catch him up on things he's missed when his "phase" started.
I would be lying if I said I didn't notice something was up with Axel since the beginning of the year. He started sleeping in class, and replying with "I don't know" whenever a teacher asked him a question. He used to always pay attention in class even when he knew the material that was being taught, and would always raise his hand when a teacher asked a question.
I wanted to find out what happened to the small boy, so I agreed. Mr. Falcon looked surprised since I agreed so quickly, but I just shrugged. He's asked me to tutor others before, but I always declined. I don't know why, but I felt the need to help Axel through whatever it was he was dealing with. We never talked before, but I felt compelled to.
Now I understand why. I had a crush on the honour student. I care about him and I want to help him through his hardships, and make him smile when he's sad.
I want him to know that he will always have someone beside him, through thick and thin. I want to be that person.
I hear shuffling beside me that breaks me out of my thoughts, as Axel turns to face me, still sleeping. He buries his face into my chest and lets out a sigh of -what I assume to be- content. I smile and hug the boy tighter and rest my chin on his head as I close my eyes and slowly let the darkness overtake me.
I just hope I won't wake up with a raging boner. That'd be awkward to explain.
