People say, "don't be afraid of the dark", and maybe, they are right. It is not the dark we fear, not the void, it is the things we don't see, the monsters lurking in the shadows, the lies buried beneath a cloak of darkness.
But maybe, we should fear the light instead, worry about the blinding brightness and the truths unravelled.

It hadn't been hard to convince Gar to come to the tunnels with him, just a few well-placed words here and there, and he had been hooked like a fish on a fishing line.
Granted, Jason did feel kinda guilty for manipulating him like that, but Jason needed this, needed to prove his worth... to Dick and Bruce.
After that fight with Dick, Jason felt like he needed to... redeem himself somehow.
It just wasn't fair. He was a skilled fighter and he would have been a valuable asset in the fight against Doctor Light, but Dick had turned him down and Jason had been so angry (still was). Why didn't the former Robin trust him? They had taken down Melting Man together (though Jason was the only one to call him that) and now Dick didn't even allowed him in on briefings.
He wasn't some inexperienced kid, he was Robin the fucking Boy Wonder for fuck's sake!

He huffed angrily as he swept through the tunnel with his flashlight.
He was sick of the old Titans treating him like a baby, like he hadn't been patrolling Gotham for over a year now. What was the point of being a hero, if no one actually cared?!
He glared at nothing in particular, wondering if Gar had any more luck finding Doctor Light than he did.
He hoped not.
If Jason could manage to take him down by himself, Dick and the others would have to finally show him the respect he deserved.

Annoyance mixed with Jason's anger as his flashlight began to flicker and he hit it against the palm of his hand a few times, frowning as it went out completely.
He looked up and slowly lowered the flashlight, seeing Doctor Light kneel about ten feet away from him, absorbing the electric light of the bare lamps hanging from the ceiling.

Noticing the young vigilante, Arthur Light slowly stood from his crouched position, smirking at Jason predatorily.
"What, the big kids weren't available, so they send junior Robin?"
Suddenly, the lights turned off completely, only the soft glow from Dr. Light's suit illuminating Jason's vision, as his eyes flickered around, looking for the source of the power outage.
His heart began to beat a little faster and he tightened the grip on his flashlight.
"Maybe you're just a fanboy," continued Doctor Light and flexed his fingers. Jason wondered what it must feel like, having electric light running through every cell of your body.

Jason threw the piece of metal to the side and ducked out of the way just as a beam of light was shot at him, moving to fall into a fighting stance, but he didn't have enough time to dodge the next attack and the light hit him hard in the chest, sending him flying through the air. Jason could hear the man's laughter, bouncing off the walls and echoing around him, but his vision was swimming and it was too dark to make out any specifics. He groaned, slowly pushing himself to his elbows, shaking his head to get rid of the dizziness. He staggered slightly, trying to find his balance on all fours.
Dr. Light stepped right in front of him and Jason glared up at the villain, stumbling to his feet.

Jason threw a punch at Dr. Light's face, but the criminal leaned to the side, grabbing his shoulders and head-butting him, the helmet sending a sharp flash of pain through Jason's skull, dazing him even more as Dr. Light threw him against a wall. Before Jason had the chance to bring his hands up to deflect any incoming attacks, he was grabbed again, Doctor Light's fist crashing against his cheek bone, sending him tumbling to the floor once again.

Jason blinked hard, white spots dancing before his eyes and his head throbbing. That last hit would defenitifly bruise. He tried to put some distance between them, his breathing coming out in short puffs, dread pooling into his stomach. Maybe he had underestimated Dr. Light, maybe he wasn't good enough.
Jason sensed more than saw Dr. Light in front of him and Dick's words flashed through his head:
In battle, anything can be taken from you.
He remembered the blindfold lessons, complaining about having to fight like that.
No matter what is taken, you must be able to keep fighting. And win.
He clenched his fists in determination, eyes focusing on his gloved fingers, ignoring the metallic taste of his own blood on his tongue.
He was Robin the Boy fucking Wonder and he would not be defeated by a guy named Doctor Light.

Just as a steel-tipped boot was about to crash into his ribs, Jason rolled to the side, barely avoiding cracking his ribcage.
Son of a bitch.
He jumped to his feet, growling at the way his vision shifted, and jerked his arm up, his cape protecting him from the next beam of light.

A victorious grin spread across his face as he dropped his cape, turning to fully face Dr. Light.
"Hey, Lightbulb."
He ducked underneath another attack, grinning as he heard Dr. Light's worried, "Fuck!"
"Is it Lite, like Lite beer Lite?" Jason asked, a mocking smirk on his lips.
"Shut the fuck up!"
Jason didn't even have two dodge the next to beams that were shot at him, he had rattled his opponent enough for him to miss completely.

Yelling, "Fuck you!", he ran at Dr. Light and jumped into the air, twisting his body airborne and rolling over the floor, coming up straight in front of Doctor Light, gripping his throat tightly, but not choking him, his gloved fist smashing into the man's face one, two, three, four times, letting go of his throat to punch him one last time, throwing him into the wall Jason had been pushed against only minutes before, but Doctor Light didn't fall, using the wall to keep upright, he spun around to counter attack, but Jason caught his arm, punching him in the chest twice, careful to avoid the metal armour and twisted his shoulder, so Dr. Light had to bend over, and kneeled Doctor Light in the back of his knees, his stomach and lastly, his face.
Still keeping his grip on the villain's arm, he took a small step around him, kicking Doctor Light square in the face, letting go of his arm and taking his shoulder instead, pulling him face-first into Jason's knee and letting him stumble back, his pained groans ringing through the hallow tunnels, and all that in a matter of seconds.

Dr. Light turned around on wobbling legs, eyes dazed and desperate. He took a sloppy swing at Jason's head, but the hero ducked to the right, punching the older man in the chest and as he turned around, Jason grabbed the back of his armour, his fist raining down on Dr. Light's neck, pulling him up and throwing him to the floor with a powerful shove.

Jason stood above him, breathing heavily and watching Dr. Light's bloodied face contort in discomfort.
Jason didn't wait for him to get his senses back and kicked him in the side repeatedly, smirking as the fallen man moaned in pain.
He jumped over him, using the wall as a springboard and landed hard on Dr. Light's nuts, who let out a yell, the sound satisfying Jason's need for violence.
Bull's eye.
Now he just needed to knock him out and bring him back to Titans Tower, maybe then Dick would finally see that he was not just some replacement, that he deserved the name Robin.

Leaning close, he snarled, "This Titan's back, bitch," and and started pummeling him, Dr. Light's head snapping back with every punch, small, pained noises escaping his split lips.
And suddenly, Jason stopped mid-swing, eyebrows furrowed in confusion as Doctor Light started laughing, rough, hiccup-y sounds, eyes focused on something behind Jason.
Then, Jason heard the footsteps.

Slowly lowering his fist, he turned his head around, his stomach churning with dread and his heart skipped a beat, his lungs constricting. His breath quickened and panic settled into his mind as he fully faced the man standing behind him, two swords strapped to his armoured back.

Deathstroke.

Jason may overestimate himself sometimes, but he wasn't stupid.
Deathstroke was an enemy he couldn't defeat, not on his own, not without backup and right now, he hoped that the only backup he had- Gar- wouldn't stumble in on them, because even if they fought together, they would still be no match for Deathstroke the Terminator and Jason didn't want Gar to get hurt because of a fucking idiotic decision he had made.
