ch. 4

Me and Nick were put in charge of the new animal, it's our job to find out about it, keep it from harming the public and helping it find its feet. We also had to consider the connection it could have with the feral animals, whether its causing the issue or escaped from the people who caused the issue. From the way it could fight we think that it's a hunter of some form or maybe trained, however it also out runned Nick and though he may not be pray or have the natural instincts for running he is still one of ZPDs best.

On the cameras we figured out that it had a phone and a bag with it at the first moments it came to our knowledge. We found the phone on its body however we couldn't get past the passcode when we tried to look through it, the model wasn't one anyones heard of and theres no records of the brand on the internet so we couldn't even try hack it. We also found a bag a few meters from where it first appeared on security cameras, just like the phone we can't identify the brand however inside the bag theres a lot of books. Each of them titled different school subjects like Math, English etc. but theres a few things in there that we don't recognize like some of the information written down. For example, in the formula page in math it said "to find the hypotanuse; A²+B²=C²" with no other context.

The animal itself was being restricted in the medical bay so that it doesn't hurt itself or others when it wakes up. Me and Nick are currently walking there so we are around when it wakes up. Both of us are armed with anesthetic strong enough to calm it down if it turns to attack us but not strong  enough to knock it out or atleast we think.

When we get there the animal is already awake and thrashing around, trying to get free. I run up to it and try to calm it down while introducing myself and Nick. The animal starts screaming but chokes up and starts to sob. However, before things had the chance to get out of hand, Nick stabs the needle into the animals neck.

Taking this as an opportunity to ask questions I resite the list I mentally created, starting with the basic ones. Nothing I ask gets a reaction until I mention the Predator or prey, the animal begins to ask questions as well which shows me its calming down. Things begin to calm down until Nick gets annoyed.

"Listen, we're just here to do our jobs. Answer the questions ask that we can get information on what's being done about you."

Nick, you're an idiot. I think to myself

"What's in it for me? The way I see it, you've just kidnapped me, locked me in place and now are threatening me. I have no reason to comply, I dont know who you are or what's going to happen to me. For all I know you are going to kill me-"

"KILL YOU? WHY WOULD WE DO THAT? THIS IS ZOOTOPIA! ANYONE CAN BE ANYTHING! YOU ARE JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE! WE ARE AL-"

"I dont see anyone else chained down for no apparent reason. Why am I here?"

I freeze, the thought of just how terrified the animal could be. Thankfully Nick takes charge and answers for me

"Last night you, an unknown animal appeared out of what seemed like no where. We looked into it but the only information we have is that a blue van dropped you off in the rainforest district while you were unconscious. They also left a bag which gave us no clues apart from the fact that theres a lot of books with the name  Y/F/N (Your full name) on the covers. We also found unknown food products and brands however they all proved to be no help. We need to know about you to get you home but we strapped you down because of the little we know about you. We know you get hostile and tend to run when anyone gets close and can take down a feral wolf. We need to strap you down incase you try to attack one of us and we need to ask questions so that we can help you find home and the ones who brought you here."

The animal looks shocked and I start to regained my composure, not completely but I've calmed a little

"Y/N."

"What?"

"That's my name. Y/N. That was the first question right?"

"Yup. I'm Judy Hopps and this is my partner Nick Wilde. Nice to meet you. What's your species?"

"Human."

"What's that?"

"Human or the technical term which is homosapien. Part of the primate family."

"Are you Predator or prey?"

"Predator. Then again, foxes hunt rabbits but that wont stop a wolf from killing a fox. I guess it can be a bit of both but we fall pretty high on the food chain."

"Where are you from?"

"(Town name)"

"Where?"

"Um, (T/N). You know, in (city)?"

"Never hear of it before, how far is it from the rainforest district. That's where you were first seen."

"I dont know, I've never heard of the Rainforest district or Zootopia. Then again, animals aren't as... um, I dont know how to word this right. Where I'm from animals act like the wolf that I fought to help the fox, it's only our species that can talk and... yeah."

The animal trails off awkwardly while we take this new information in. If what it said was true then it would explain why it ran as soon as it seen Nick, how it knew how to fight the fox and why the species isnt in our database.

"We want to ask you questions about a bag we found near where you appeared. Mind if we have it brought in and ask you questions?"

The animal says to go ahead and a voice over the intercom says that its on it's way. A few seconds of heavy silence washes over the room before theres a knock and the door opens. The bag is dropped by the door and it closes, leaving us to the interrogation.

"Firstly, what brand is the bag?"

"(Nike/converse/hot tuna/all star/adidas/whatever your school bag is)"

"Okay, what's it for?"

"Its just my school bag."

"School bag? How old are you?" Nick asks in shock

"I'm (y/a)"

"Why do you still go to school then?"

"Humans age slowly. Back home we tend to live about 80 years give or take."

The conversation continues for a good few hours. In that time we let the poor thing sit up, find out about the basic human culture and anatomy. We also believe (y/n) might be safe enough to let out into the streets so long as its supervised. I also agreed to let it stay with me until we can find a way to get it home.
