//Okay this is a sad one! I'm sorry if any of this offends you! You can always not read it. Suicide and cancer are topics that shouldn't be taken as jokes.//

You stood at the doorstep of Karkat's apartment. You wanted to see how he was doing, ever sense the doctors told him he had cancer and he would lucky to live another year, he was so distant. He never smiled and being around him was depressing. But you still cared about him, the others said they did but they didn't totally mean it.
You knocked on Karkat's door but there was no reply. You knocked again but after awhile you convinced yourself that he was staying at a friends house "Yeah that's it..." You muttered.
You got into your car and started to drive home. On your way home you always drive over a bridge, it leads straight to a waterfall. If anything fell over, it wouldn't make it back in one piece.
Out of the corner of your eye you could swear you saw Karkat sitting on the bridge railing. You hit the brakes on your car and opened the door. You scanned the bridge and then you saw him. Karkat was sitting on the railing, both legs hanging over the edge. One hand was on the railing the other was over his eyes. He was crying.
You didn't know what to think but all you could do was shout his name, "Karkat!" You called.
He jumped and looked back at you in horror, clearly he didn't plan for anyone to find him. "(F-f/N) What the hell are you doing here?"
You quickly ran over to Karkat and pulled his small body off the railing. "I was on my way home," You started, "Karkat what are you doing?"
He tried to find something to look at other than you, his eyes focused on something in the distance, probably the cars passing by.
"Isn't it...obvious?" He said quivering.

"That's not what I meant and you know it. Now look at me and tell me why you are doing this!" You said a bit angrily.
His eyes grew wider, he began to cry again, "No! DAMN IT!" He started to run away from you, tripping every few steps.
Taking no time to think you quickly caught up to the sick boy and pushed him to the ground. You pinned him down so he couldn't run again. "Karkat please just tell me."
He started sobbing, "NO NO NO NO!" He began to kick and punch at you, he managed you land a firm blow at your gut. You staggered backwards and grunted in pain.
Karkat's face fell, "(f/n) I'm-I'm so sorry..."
"Karkat..." You began, "what's wrong?"

"Everything's wrong. I'm going to die. And no one cares. Life doesn't matter anymore, it's just a boring waste of total shit. They will probably be glad when I'm dead. 'No more depressing Karkat around to take up our time and energy, I was really hoping he would die sooner.' You're probably only here because you pity me."
You looked at him with total disbelief, but he was completely serious, "Yes, you are dying. But you're not going today or tomorrow. You could have a whole year. Or maybe screw the doctors it could be longer. Your life's not over yet, don't let some disease control what you do with what you have. Karkat I care about you a lot, you're my best friend and I hate seeing you like this but it will never make me want you to die," You engulfed the shaking boy in a hug, "I know you don't want to go like this. If you do it, the second it happens you'll regret it. By then, all hope is lost."
Karkat sighed into your shoulder, "God damn it. You're right, I'm so sorry (f/n)."
"Hey, don't be." You say pulling out of the hug to look Karkat in the eyes. This time his eyes met yours. God you loved his eyes, they were special. Your mouth formed a small smile and out of nowhere Karkat smiled back.
"You really need to smile more often, I almost forgot how much I love it."
Karkat blushed slightly, "Fuck off." He half laughed.
"No sir I will not fuck off as long and you are with me!" You protested.
Karkat looked at the ground, "Well that's going to happen pretty soon, heh."
"Karkat! Stop doing that to yourself! Positivity is the best way to live longer."

"Fine, I'll try to be more positive, for you."
You blushed slightly and stood up, "Come on, let's get out of this cold." You said helping Karkat up. You both walked to your car and got in.
Karkat shivered quite a bit. You took off your own coat and gave it to Karkat. He needed it more.
"Thanks," He yawned while putting the coat on, "For everything, and...I'm sorry..."
You frowned, "Karkat, it isn't your fault, if anything it's god damn Cancers fault."
He nodded slightly and faced the window, "Can I um...stay with you tonight? I don't really want to be alone..."
"Of course, I don't think I want to leave you alone either. Next stop, my place."

After a painfully quiet car ride you arrived at your house. You looked over at Karkat only to find out he fell asleep. You lightly shook him awake, "Hey, we're here." You said quietly.
He slowly opened his eyes and yawned.
You got out of the car and Karkat followed.
"Oh shit, I don't have any pajamas to wear..." Karkat cursed himself.

"That's fine. You can borrow some of mine, they might be a little big on you." You offered.
"Sure thanks."
You opened the door and Karkat gazed around your house, it was nothing special. Just a house.
"Why don't you take a seat on the couch and I'll be right back with blankets and pajamas for you."
Karkat sat on the couch and you scurried upstairs, grabbed a fluffy (F/C) blanket, four pillows and a black t-shirt with fuzzy pants.
You came down and have the clothes to Karkat and showed him where the bathroom was.
While he was changing you pulled open the couch-bed-thingy and out the blanket and pillows on it.
When Karkat came back he had the pajama on, even though the shirt was showing part of his collar bone and the pants kept slipping down so he had to constantly pull them up. You had to admit, he looked hot.
He yawned again and came up to you from behind to hug you. You grinned and kissed his cheek. You slid over in the bed to make room for him.
Karkat got under the blanket and cuddled up to you. You cuddled him back.
"(F/n) as long as I am alive, never leave my side." He whispered.

"Okay I wasn't planning to."
A few minutes later Karkat fell asleep, then soon after you did too.

You wake up, rubbing your (E/C) eyes sleepily. You wonder why you were having the dream about when almost died. Then you remember, today is his birthday. You decide to pay him a visit. You get out of bed and take a shower. After you're clean you dress a bit nicer than you normally do.
You head downstairs and grab your car keys. You get into the car and drive to the store to buy him a birthday gift.
You pick out something very special and place it on the counter. The woman at the checkout smiles, "Is this for someone special?"
"No," you smile, "it's for a friend."
You pay for the gift and leave.
When you arrive to Karkat's place, it's quiet. He loves the quiet. You enter the area and go in search of Karkat. Once you find him you run over, "Karkat! Hey! I missed you! Sorry I didn't stop by sooner to wish you a happy birthday!"
You give him the gift and frown a bit. Maybe roses weren't the best gift choice. A small bit of tears stream out if your eyes. Your knees buckle and you fall to the ground, hugging the tombstone. You begin to sob onto the rock. The slab of marble reads "Karkat Vantas, he thought cancer was the way death hated him but someone told him that cancer was the way death told him to get off his ass and live life to the fullest"
The night the dream was reality was three years ago, Karkat passed away four months later. But every day he spent with you was a whole year of joy. He left the best notes every day, some fine works of poetry others simple phrases. You kept all of them, reading them all the time.
Everyday he was gone you could feel Karkat with you, telling you to be strong. Sometimes you cried and Karkat was there. Sometimes you fucked up and Karkat was there to laugh and judge you. Karkat lied that day when he said "As long as I am alive, never leave my side."
He never ever left your side, not really.

You began to slowly whisper to Karkat "I love you so much, no matter the pain. No matter the hate, you are mine. Dear, your eyes make me flutter your voice makes me want to kiss you and even your a bitch sometimes I love you."
When you looked up you saw that other people had arrived to see Karkat. Gamzee, Sollux, Nepeta, even Eridan. They all came to see the not quite departed boy.
