Chapter 6

*Author's P.O.V*

Niall looks at the house that looks to be abandoned. The grass and bushes are overgrown by a lot. The paint on the house is still fighting to stay on but is losing pretty badly. All the curtains are closed, and the fence around the house is leaning very close to the ground. There aren't many houses around, and if they are, they look as if they are in way better shape than this. There's no way that Harry can actually live in this place. He feels as though he has the wrong address, but this was the location on one of his Instagram posts. He enters the yard and then makes his way to the front door. His body flinches slightly with every squeak the wooden stairs make.

One of his eyebrows lifts as he stops in front of the door. The world seems to stop and turn on its HD mode only on the note that is taped to the door. There are so many voices in his head telling him not to read it. They just want him to go inside. He fights against them, though. He will come to regret that in the future. The note rests in his hands, and confusion appears on his face. There is nothing but the word "sorry" written in different fonts and languages. His eye does catch one that says I'm sorry, and his feet move quicker than they ever did. He nearly trips, but he manages to catch himself. The bedroom shows no form of life. The kitchen doesn't either. That only leaves the bathroom.

His knees met the floor pretty hard the moment the door releaved what he had been dreading. The world started to spin again, and the slight blurry mode returned. He quickly crawls over to the unresponsive male that has an empty pill bottle in his hand. He puts his ear against his chest to find a heartbeat but doesn't have any luck, and that scares him like no other. He smacks the bottle away as if it was a demon coming to take his Harry away. That demon had already succeeded, though. He pulls him onto his lap before rocking back and forth. This moment has changed everything for him. His life will continue to change from this point, but he doesn't know.

"Why would you do this? I thought you were getting better." Niall mumbles, cradling his head against his chest.

It suddenly dawns on him that he's wasting time just sitting here. He gently places him down, then stands and looks through the medicine cabinet. He shuffles through the draw for something that could help him. He accidentally knocks over a bottle of acid. He goes to catch it, but it bursts once it makes contact with the edge of the counter. The liquid gets on his left arm, chest, and neck. He screams out in pain as he backs away from it. He decides now to just take his friend to the hospital. He ignores his flesh burning and the smell it puts out. He gets Harry up and then heads out of the house with his face scrunch up in pain. The burning only increases as he puts his muscles to work.

"There's no way you're dying on my watch." Niall whispers as he places him inside his backseat, then gets in.

He never expected his first time to see Harry in six years to be like this. He never wanted to see him like this. He knows that he's been pretty upset with himself after their little even. He didn't think that it had this much effect on him. If he had known, his efforts would have been way better. The pain suddenly takes a turn for the worse. Sweat starts to run down the side of his head as his vision goes in and out. At this point, his shirt is soaked in his own blood. His breathing pattern is very irregular. There's no way that he's going to let this stop him from saving his friend. His mind is determined, but his body is not. It doesn't take long before he passes out with his face resting on the horn.

"It's so good to see you awake hun. I just want to say thank you so much for saving Harry. He wouldn't be here if you didn't check in on him." Anne says once Niall awakens.

"Yeah, but at what cost, though?" Harry mumbles, but it doesn't fall on deaf ears.

"Don't speak like that. I raised you better than that." She replies as she glares at him.

"Mom, his left arm has a lot nerve damage, so we don't know if he can ever move it entirely again or if he can even feel any pressure on it and his skin is ruined. All of that is because of me. I've found yet another way to ruin his life again." Harry responds, crossing his arms over his chest.

"I'm alright. You didn't ruin anything. I'll be up and running in no time." Niall rasp out, trying to lift his left arm to give him a thumbs up, but that only results in him screaming in pain.

"Take it easy hun. I'll go get the doctor." Anne states, patting his leg, then exit the room.

"It's bad enough they put us in the same hospital room, so I had to hear your whimpers and groans when you were asleep." Harry informs, the scream making him want to fall off the face of the earth.

"Why did you do it?" Niall questions while trying to hide his pain, but it is too obvious.

"Why were you at my house?" Harry asks as he glares at him.

"Your last post made me concerned. I had to see for my own eyes that you were alright. When I saw you on that floor, a wave of memories of us came flooding back. Please don't do that ever again." Niall answers his sad eyes, staring into pain filled ones.

"Goodnight, Niall." Harry says before turning over and forcing himself to go to sleep.
