When he decided to come back, Younghyun met Sungjin right at the corner of the corridor. Sungjin was looking at his phone, but his behaviour showed he had been waiting to see if he would come back.
"Dowoon just arrived, we have a perf this evening, so I have to go," he replied his questioning gaze. "Don't mess up and good luck!" he added teasingly, already leaving before Younghyun had time to think of a smart comeback.
Younghyun sighed and turned toward the room. Something felt different from when he left. As he walked closer, he heard muffled sounds with the simple accompaniment of an acoustic guitar. He did not recognise the melody, but he was still far from being an expert in this department.
He headed toward the sound, convinced it came from the room he left sooner. It was surprising since he and Jaehyung only had pop-rock songs for their 'duet'. This was softer, slower, clearly not one from the list they received.
Intrigued, Younghyun raised an eyebrow. Was it really Jaehyung inside?
He did not hear him so many times, but he knew Jaehyung's type of music and he never talked about this style being one of them. So why was a ballad coming from their music room? Did Jaehyung already leave the room for someone else? Did he give up when Sungjin left? That would be surprising considering Sungjin's last words.
Feeling more and more curious, Younghyun slowly opened the door. The soft rhythm invaded him and he could feel the music tickling his ears to run in his veins toward his heart. Immediately, Younghyun looked at the sitting figure in the corner of the small room who did not notice his presence.
Thrilled, Younghyun could only stare. Jaehyung was there, playing with his whole soul, eyes close with messy locks falling in front of his eyelids. His glasses were forgotten on the side and his head moved in rhythm with the tempo as if it was his whole life.
He was an even better player than he knew him to be, delicate yet sensual in a way. He could not look away, afraid to lose a single bit of the performance. He never thought Jaehyung could look so enthralling. As if his voice was not beautiful enough to catch fully his attention, he had to have those bewitched moves and sensual touches as he played with the strings of his guitar.
When Jaehyung opened his eyes and slightly turned his head to look at him. Younghyun felt a pang of fear, thinking Jaehyung would stop as he noticed his presence. Surprisingly, he did not. Without his glasses on, he wondered if Jaehyung recognized him, but he could not care less if it meant he could keep watching his impromptu performance.
When the last notes faded, Jaehyung shook his hair out of his eyes and pushed his guitar aside. He picked his glasses and looked at Younghyun who did not move from his spot near the door.
"You came back," he said simply and Younghyun nodded almost shyly.
"That was... Wow..." Younghyun said, calling the singer's attention on him, "who's this from?"
Jaehyung muffled a short giggle and shrugged. "From me. That's a song I wrote a long time ago."
"I didn't know you were that good in composition too. I'm not even starting about the way you play."
Jaehyung smiled thoughtfully. He was pleased yet surprised by the sudden praise and did not know how to answer. Younghyun felt his eyes scanning him, wondering if he could accept the compliment. He met his gaze with all the determination he could gather and concluded it was the moment he had been waiting for.
"I'm sorry, Jae," he apologized as he kept his look on Jaehyung. "I'm sorry and I know I was stupid. I did not mean to... hurt you. I did not... You know, I'm not... not at all... and that's not even what I meant... I did not know you... well...that you..." he tried his best to explain but stopped as he noticed how awkward his explanation became.
