Keanu Reeves has suffered the most heinous tragedies in life. At the age of 3 his father left him and he never connected with him again. This caused him to live with abandonedment issues.
As he became an actor he found friendship in fellow actor River Phoenix. This friendship would mark another tragedy for Reeves. At the age of 23, River Phoenix dies from a drug overdose.
in 1998, he met a woman named Jennifer Syme, who he fell madly inlove with. In 1999, Syme becomes inpregnated with Reeves child. For him he says his life is "complete." On the day on the birth of his child, he witnesses his baby being born still. No movement, no life, his perfect fantasy crumbles before him. This again would mark another huge tragedy in his life. Due to the death of their child, their relationship became very difficult to maintain. Symes suffers from postpartum depression. Reeves did what he could to shake her from her depression, but nothing would work. Then the unimaginable happened in 2001. His wife would die instantly in a horiffic car crash. This is believed to be his main motive for the lead role in John Wick. A movie where his wife is tragically killed by Leukemia.
Reeves later finds out that his sister is diagnosed with Leukemia. With his brother being in jail practically his whole life, Reeves has barely any family to connect with. After losing his best friend and practically everyone, he says the following quote, "Other people need happiness to live, but I don't."
