Dianne's POV
Hayley was due any day now. Her due date being two weeks away.
We didn't want to find out the sex, wanting the surprise.
I jump at the sound of my phone ringing. My hands shaking when I notice the I.D. ''Joe.'' I shout.
He comes running. ''You OK?''
''It's Hayley. I think its time.'' I breathe.
''Just relax, OK? Answer it.'' I nod answering the phone.
Putting it on speaker, I answer. ''Hayley, hi.''
''Hey, uhm, can you get to the hospital? Its time.''
''Of course, we'll set off now. See you soon. Keep calm, Hayls.'' I hang out.
''Oh my God,'' I breathe. ''This is happening.''
''We are about to become parents. Shit.'' Joe runs a finger through his hair.
''Relax bub, we've got this.'' He nods, grabbing his keys.
When we told our families the news, they were shocked of course. But thought what we were doing was so selfless and incredible.
. . .
''We're here.'' I rush in, go straight to Hayley fussing over her.
''Di, I'm fine.'' She giggles.
''Sorry,'' She laughs. ''Are you comfortable?''
''I'm fine. Stop fussing.'' She smiles.
''Sorry.'' I laugh.
''How many, are you ugh,'' Joe stutters.
''I'm three.'' Hayley laughs.
He nods.
''Just remember the breathing techniques I showed you.'' I say.
''I know, I've been doing it all morning. I feel fine at the moment. Just a few contractions here and there, but I'm good.''
''Good, OK.''
''Di, honey, she's fine.'' Joe laughs.
''I know. Sorry I don't mean to fuss.'' I laugh.
''No it's sweet,'' She smiles. ''I can't thank you guys enough for raising this baby.''
''We should be thanking you for this wonderful gift.'' Joe smiles rubbing my hand.
''Oh you guys will make the most amazing parents, so its my pleasure.'' Hayley smiles.
We smile at her.
. . .
It was around ten hours later and still no sign of the baby. I made Hayley as comfortable as possible, offering her things and fluffing her pillow.
''Guys, I think it maybe time.''
''Are you sure?'' I ask.
She nods. ''OK I'll get the nurse.'' Joe says, whilst running out to get her.
''OK let me check you over.'' The midwife comes in with a nurse.
''Right Hayley, you're 10 centimeters. Its time.''
''Di.'' She looks at me.
''I'm here, sweetheart.'' I say grabbing her hand in mine. ''Grip my hand when you feel a contraction, OK?'' She nods.
''Do you want me to leave the room?'' Joe asks.
''No, I want you both here. You're their Dad, Joe.'' He smiles.
