*bang*
The sound of a gunshot echoed through the empty hall. Mulder heard it and dashed around the corner. Scully slowly lowered her gun, her breath slightly shaky. After Mulder checked she was alright, they both sat down and discussed the case with the recently-arrived police. Resting in Mulder's arms, she felt her heart rate lowering; a sense of ease washed over her.
The person she shot was a suspect they had been chasing for days, and when Scully had cornered him, it was a matter of who would shoot first.

It was found that the man had labelled hair samples of each of the victims killed, and stashed away in a hidden pocket was a small diary. It described, in detail, how the victims looked and how he planned to end them. He was deemed to be the killer, and a conclusive report was filed...
Of course, "conclusive", in this way meaning a logical, scientific ending. Mulder was not satisfied, to say the least.
When they returned to their office, Scully started to question her partner. "Mulder, why did you take interest in this case? This man was very obviously not an alien."
"Of course he wasn't... but his victims were all abductees. Is that not suspicious to you?"
"What I am suspicious of is that you need therapy." she half-muttered.
"Marry me, Scully." Mulder joked, tossing a piece of paper and hitting Scully's arm.
He'd said this a few times before, and when he said it, Scully would do her classic eye roll. This time, though, she shook her head with a smirk on her face, and replied with "Where's my ring?"
This tease took Mulder by surprise, as he nervously chuckled to himself.
They were interrupted when Skinner knocked on the door. "Scully. Mulder. You can take the rest of the day off, I know how exhausting it's been. Great work."
"How is the killer's condition?" Scully asked.
"Stable. He's still unconscious, but he should wake up soon. We can talk to him later. For now, go home. Rest."
"Thank you. Also, Sir, do you believe that those people were killed because they were 'abductees'?" Scully mentioned.
"Let me guess, another one of Mulder's theories?" Skinner replied with a chuckle. He exited the room, muttering something about cleaning up.
"It's a solid theory. It must have something to do with the case!" Mulder yelled after him.
"Mulder, the case is closed. Calm down." Scully sighed.
He stretched his back, groaning, and stood up. "Anyway, do you think I could get a ride home? My car is still getting fixed."
"Yeah, sure." she answered.
They grabbed their stuff and walked out of the office.

Scully pulled up to Mulder's apartment. He leaned a bit closer and said "Thanks for the ride, Dana." with a grin on his face. As he walked inside, she sat still for a moment... since when did he call me that?
She started the car again, driving to her own apartment with a smile, as she plotted her sweet, sweet revenge...
