The war had destroyed most of America in 2029. I was just a girl then. A scared lonely girl who worried what prom was going to be in a few months. A girl who worried she was too fat to fit into anything. My thighs and hips were huge, many described me as medium build, others as fat.
I would lose myself in fascinating about folk lore and other things such as reading and daydreaming. Maybe my father was coming home after running off with a girl no older than 25 leaving my mother and I to fin for ourselves. We made things work.
That was until I met him. He was walking in the rain but it hadn't seemed to bother him, until he heard my car. I don't know why I stopped but to this day I wish I hadn't. His dark green eyes staring at me that day, the way he smelled of ocean breeze, and the way he gently shut the door.
He had spoke to me in such a gentle way. There was no words to describe it now. It made me feel whole and at peace. I made myself shiver just thinking of it. I wiped my mouth before blood stained my white shirt.
"Fuck" I numbered realizing the man had ripped my shirt.
I dropped his body hearing him grunt. "You monstrous bitch, always coming after good people" he said gasping for air while after I grabbed him by his neck pulling him closer to me.
"Your lucky I hadn't killed you, but I'd rather not break the laws given and restraining me. Don't ever speak of this to anybody or I'll be back petty human" I spat the words at him, everyone knew the laws knew it was hard for every creature including humans to get along.
The kind had created these rules long ago. Before his son was born giving us all hope they would be changed. The king was a hybrid of sorts. He was practicing witchcraft long before the war, which made him a witch him being successful in his work. But on the same night the war broke out was bitten by both a werewolf and a vampire which should have killed him.
However he died in a way but didn't. He made things work showing us we could all be one, but power was what he had over us not only was he immortal. He was the strongest being on the earth that remained and made everyone including humans bow to him.
I let go of the man I had been holding and walked away. Tonight was going to be rough enough as it was. Rumors had started of hunters that could kill us all, but surely the all mighty king would save us right? Note the sarcasm. The king only let the royals he kept in his huge mansion safe. That was the problem.
He didn't care about the rest of us. Maybe me, maybe after that night. I ran like a damn fool. Changed my hair and the color. Wore contacts. Never fed unless I got weak, used a fake name. He was looking for me and I'd never stop running from him.
There was only one thing holding me near and it was about to be a choice I had to make to fully flee from this quiet town of yolkum. I walked quickly back to my home being quiet not to awaken her as I slipped into my bed ready for a restless night.
