mei ying smiled at the comments on her latest post. she was glad that her fans liked her film photos. it was her first time using non-disposables and a proper film camera, so she was quite nervous that the photos she took didn't turn out good. now that her post had a good reaction, she was relieved.
mei ying took a glance at the time. 12.23am. "I should probably go to sleep soon," mei ying thought to herself, before proceeding to wash up.
"ding" mei ying's phone suddenly buzzed, her screen lighting up. picking up the phone, she saw that she received a notification from instagram. with one click, the phone unlocked to show a comment on the post about her new song.
「bangchan97: "girls" is a really good song! thanks for releasing it!」
mei ying's lips unconsciously curved into a smile. she felt appreciated. she quickly replied with a "aww thank you so much!" before returning to her routine.
not long after, mei ying's phone angrily buzzed again. "what could it be this time, this late at night?" she felt slightly frustrated being interrupted, but she picked up the device anyway.
this time, mei ying received an email from an unfamiliar email address. the subject read:
「Invitation to Job Interview at JYP Entertainment」
"JYP...Entertainment?" mei ying was confused upon reading the subject of the email. JYP Entertainment, as in THE JYP Entertainment, one of the big 3 entertainment agencies in south korea? probably a scam. but she read the email anyway.
the email sent to mei ying was actually from a jyp talent scout, who recognised her talent in music composition after listening to her original songs. they had emailed her to invite her to a job interview if she was interested in being hired as an in-house composer.
mei ying slapped herself twice. "SERIOUSLY??? ME?? INVITED?? BY JYP?? TO BE A COMPOSER??" she screeched. when she first started singing at 13, she had pursued the dream to debut as a professional singer under a famous label. but as she matured, mei ying gradually realised the possibility was drifting away from her, eventually settling on youtube as a platform to show the world what she was capable of. now that she had received an invitation from such an impressive label, though not for her singing but rather for her composing, mei ying felt that her hard work had finally paid off.
"if you are interested in working as one of our composers," mei ying quoted a line from the email. "PFTTT if i am interested? i would give up both my kidneys for something like this," she commented. of course she was going to jump at any chance to work for a prestigious agency like JYP.
after replying to the email stating her interest, mei ying finally went to bed. the interview was next week, but she was already feeling very nervous. mei ying was a youtuber, so if views and likes fluctuated, her pay would too. it wasn't a very stable job, which made this job at JYP all the more important. she wanted to get hired. she needed to get hired. worries flooded mei ying's mind, but soon enough the tiredness overtook her and she slowly drifted to sleep.
