How the diamond got rough

Hi there!  My name is Diamond. I am a young teenage spy currently in high school, but that is not the focus of what I am trying to say.  This is the story of how I got tough, or as they like to say, rough. That is because I am a diamond in the rough.  Let me begin by telling you how being a spy all started...
It all began one autumn when I was right in the middle of my etiquette class that my mom set up for me privately. I was sitting there listening to the teacher as she spoke and of course, I was listening to how to act as a duchess.  I was learning how to cut my food, what to wear, which utensil to use for what dish, and how to properly place my napkin.  In addition, the most important thing of all was I was learning how to behave around people, such as giving them the proper greeting and how to address people properly since I was always dealing with royalty.

Normally in my etiquette class I was well behaved but not on this day as things seemed to go awry. As I was learning to balance books on my head to practice proper posture I somehow tripped, which awakened something inside of me that I never noticed before.  I did not enjoy these etiquette classes that my mom put me in and I also realized that I was feeling lonely because the only person I hung out with was my cousin, Opal.  I rarely got to see her.  She was 2 years older than I was and had more interests than I did.
After my lessons that day I stood out on my balcony and saw the neighbourhood kids playing together, having fun getting muddy and enjoying each other's company.  It was then that I realized being a perfect lady meant not being who I truly am. The problem was that I did not even know who I was; therefore, I decided it was time for me to find out who I was by sneaking out that evening.  However, I did not realize how dangerous the outside world was without all my bodyguards being around to protect me. Because that night, the most dangerous criminal appeared.  The villain, Dark Cloud attacked the city and I did not realize the attacking of the city would cause so much mayhem.  A piece of rubble almost fell on me, when suddenly someone pulled me out of the way.  He introduced himself as Agent Green Feather.  Agent Green Feather recognized me as the Duchess' daughter and said, "Lady Diamond, your mother and father have been searching all over for you in the city.  They are sick with worry.  They are so worried that they called in the spies to help us find you.  We are not just meant to protect cities and civilians, but our first duty is to protect the Royal Families."
Therefore, I asked, "What is a spy?
Agent Green said, "We are highly skilled guardians of the hidden lands.  Trained in stealth, combat and special magic."    At that very moment, I realized who I wanted to be.  I wanted to be a spy.
Soon after, I applied to Junior Spy Academy and I was accepted into their program, being due to the fact that I was related to the royal family and my father being a former spy.  When I began, I was like a diamond and then became the diamond in the rough.  I was becoming unpolished. I struggled because the lessons were so different for what I was taught my entire life.  My great posture was disappearing as I was now learning to fight the enemy.  I was learning new types of ways to work with technology and how to turn any tool into a weapon.  The more I learned about being a spy the more I felt like this was me and I was right at home doing it.  I also learned how to survive in isolated and dangerous situations.  I was prepared for anything.
I was a tough girl who loved taking down villains, inventing and wearing pink scrunchies.  In spite of the fact that I enjoyed it so much I was improving in a lot of my classes, however, one class always gave me trouble.
The dark variation magic class where you can learn 3 types of magic such as item magic, copy magic and illusion magic was the one I was struggling with.  In order to help me improve my lack of magic skills I hired the best dark variation magic tutor in Dazzle City, which was Fred.  Fred was tall, pale and wore a scruffy beard.  He wore a long green shirt with a picture of a lime green feather on it.  He also wore long baggy brown sweat pants and black and grey velcro runners. I could tell he had a more relaxed or I don't care type of style.  However, I did notice he did take good care of his teeth. He appeared to be about 35 years old.  His nose was droopy and he had lazy brown eyes. His hair was scraggy and going grey. He had a natural musk smell to him, as I like to refer to as o'natural. Fred explained in a low calm voice, "Dark variation magic is the discovery of one's self. It's like being in the dark of who you truly are, basically like going through puberty. You don't know who you are until you finish it.  Light variation magic is knowing who you are and growing on that.
I responded with, "ok, puberty, really? So are you saying that dark variation is basically high school and finding out who you are?  Is it like that?"
Fred said, "Well if you want to think of it that way, then, go ahead, but it's a lot more complicated than that to what dark variation magic really is. So do you want to learn?"
After stating to him that I would love to try, I began by learning item magic.  The first item I was learning to use was the slinglet.  It was just like a wide silver bracelet with a ruby on it, but it could be used as a sling shot.  I also got to use a laser ring which was black metal with a simple diamond inside.
After many attempts with those gadgets I had at my disposal it seemed I would never master them no matter how hard I tried.  So I began to realize I needed to focus less on using the item itself and focus more on the energy that flowed in them.  This was what my Tutor, Fred suggested I do.  My focusing on the energy allowed me to understand how to control the items with my mind.
I struggled with the former slinglet, as it was chunky, heavy and hard to work with it.  Therefore, I eventually invented a more convenient way to do both.  I came up with the slingring which had the ability to be a laser and be a slingshot at the same time.  In times when I was captured I used the laser slingring to cut through the ropes. It also had the ability to scan finger prints and pick locks.  No one would ever think a simple ring could be the ultimate gadget.
I practiced at least three hours every day.  I worked and worked as hard as I could.  After graduating from Junior Spy Academy, which was equivalent to grade 5 to 8, I went on to the Rose Academy Top Spy program where they only accepted the best spies in training. Basically you had to have the top marks to even be accepted. As I studied, I practiced and got better and soon became one of the top female spies in the hidden lands.
It was thanks to that school I became who I am today.  It was also thanks to that school I became less lonely and made new friends.  I learned so many new and useful skills that will stay with me for the rest of my life.  A good spy always has more to learn.
