Chapter 3

Sophie's POV

"Let's go eat over there," Sophie suggested, pointing to a Mexican restaurant across the street and everybody nodded their heads in agreement.

Keefe started to walk across the street when a car came whipping past. Sophie grabbed his arm and pulled him back at the last minute, the car narrowly missing him.

"Those things are death traps!" Biana shouted over the roar of traffic.

"What are they anyway?" Linh asked.

"They're called cars," Sophie replied. "Humans use them to travel around."

The group got to a crosswalk and went into the restaurant.

The moment they walked in everyone stopped what they were doing and stared at them in amazement. All the attention made Sophie uneasy. Fitz noticed this and grabbed her hand, intertwining his fingers with hers and Sophie happily leaned on his shoulder.

Of course, after a few steps Sophie stumbled and Fitz caught her. She could feel the heat rising to her cheeks and quickly looked away.

They got their seats and started taking.

"I can't believe Forkle made us learn English for this," Keefe complained.

"Stop whining," Tam snapped.

"Bangs Boy," Keefe grumbled under his breath.

Just then a waiter came by and asked what they wanted to eat.

They all looked at the menu and everyone except Sophie gagged when they saw all the meat there. Everybody ended up ordering salad and got their meals almost immediately.

Hey Sophie.

Sophie jumped and realized it was just Fitz.

I think we should switch to transmitting. He transmitted.

Why? Sophie asked.

We don't know who could be listening.

"Stop flirting Fitzphie," Keefe said and Fitz and Sophie both blushed.

We are going to be transmitting for now in case anyone is listening. Sophie transmitted to everyone and they all jumped besides Fitz.

Why? Marella asked.

Because anyone could be listening. Fitz told them.

Like who? Asked Dex.

Well even though the Neverseen may not be here, any of these humans could be listening. Sophie said.

They finished eating and Sophie suggested they go to Central Park.

When they got there, they found a picnic table in a secluded area and sat down.

"I don't think we need to transmit anymore," Linh told them once they got settled. "I mean who could be listening here?"

"True," said Fitz.

They started talking about what the monsters may be for when a group of teenagers that Sophie recognized from the restaurant came and joined them.

"Hi I'm Percy and this is Annabeth, Jason, Piper, Leo, Frank, and Hazel," the boy with sea green eyes said gesturing to his friends."Can we sit down?"

"Sure," Sophie agreed as the group sat down on the picnic bench next to them.

"I'm Sophie, and this is Fitz, Keefe, Biana, Dex, Linh, and Tam," Sophie told them.

"Are you new in town?" Asked Piper.

"Yeah," replied Marella.

"Cool. What school are you going to?" Percy asked.

"Goode High," Sophie answered.

"Hey, that's where we go to," Jason told them."Maybe we'll see you there."

"Maybe."

"Okay, well, we better go," Annabeth said. They all said goodbye and their group left.

"They seem nice," Biana commented.

"Yeah, they do," Sophie said.

" Okay, we came here, we saw things, can we go back now?" Keefe asked.

"Keefe's right. School doesn't start till tomorrow," Sophie told them.

So they all locked hands and leapt back to Everglen.
