Etta woke with a feeling of calm. She smiled as she though back on the day she had spent with Todd. It felt so easy to be around him, the conversation flowed when it needed to but she didn't feel afraid to be silent. she wasn't one for meaningless conversation, small talk had never come naturally to her and she felt that if there wasn't something worth saying she would rather say nothing at all.
She yawned and stretched as she slowly sat up in bed. the sun was peaking through a gap in the curtains, it looked like another pleasant day.
The cafe was a hive of activity that morning, everyone seemed to want to get their fix of insta worthy food and share it with the world. By the time afternoon rolled around she had had enough of entitled people.
She loved her job but some days the constant stream of people like that made her want to sleep for a week. she was clearing a table as she heard the door open, she sighed at the thought of more annoying customers.
"Be with you in one moment." She called out in her best customer service voice.
she stacked the plates carefully and balanced them as she walked to the kitchen. A quick sigh and then happy faces.
"Hi there, how can I....oh!"
she stopped short and smiled as a familiar face came into view.
"well if it isn't my favourite Aussie! Fancy being you here"
"yes, fancy seeing me here... at my place of work" she grinned cheekily as she closed the gap with a hug.
"so what brings you here?"
"just thought id take a break from the usual routine and try somewhere new"
"Well, I'd say the universe was batting for our team today. Wouldn't you?"
She made it through the day with a spring in her step, after the pleasant interaction with Todd. She knew after she had met him that she would see him again, she just didn't think it would be so soon. As she unlocked the door to her apartment she heard her phone go off.
*1 new message from unknown*
"Hey there gorgeous, was great to run into you again. Glad I trusted my instinct and broke routine today. Are you busy tomorrow? I'd love to hang out."
She smiled at her phone and quickly texted back a response
"sorry who is this?"
