The week progressed without incident. Except for the obvious "Hey-I-have-a-twin-and-my-parents-have-been-hiding-this-secret-from-me-my-whole-life" dealio, It was actually pretty normal. I forget about homework, teachers yell at me, I don't care. I'm a hero. I don't need this junk. I'm gonna grow up and be richer than you've ever dreamed. My parents didn't have to go to school, why should I? Dad says it's because we're smarter than he ever was, but I seriously doubt it. To name a few examples; Jai, Ryan, Leo, and Michael. Need I say more?
I couldn't talk about this with anyone. Not even my brothers, and they had heard everything. I promised Katie I'd tell her on Friday, when we went to Titans Tower to spend the weekend like the team always does.
But unfortunately, my similarity to Rose didn't go unnoticed.
It was Friday morning.
"One more day, Rachel. One more day, and I can ditch this place and go be a hero."
"Cool! It's her!" a random seventh-grader guy said, waving a copy of the school newspaper in my face.
"Or is it her?" his little friend giggled devilishly. They walked off cackling, and I looked after them like they were crazy.
Anyway, I didn't have time for this. I had to be in homeroom soon, I was already running late. I dashed down the hall towards first period chemistry, but every where I went, people pointed and gasped.
"Katie, what is going on? Why is everyone staring at me and whispering?" I asked as I sat in my desk next to hers.
She paled and her smile faltered, "You...You don't know? But...but I thought for sure Ryan would have told you..."
"Ryan would have told me what?" I asked nervously.
Wordlessly, Katie reached into her backpack and brought out a copy of the school paper.
The headline, accompanied by my embarrassing school photo from last year, read; "Rachel Logan and Rose Wilson; Twins or Clones?"
"WHAT THE FLIP!?!?!?!" I screamed as the bell rang.
-------
"Ryan, how could you?" Mar'i hissed. She had called a team meeting during free period to discuss the article her little brother had written in the school newspaper.
"Sorry!" Ryan said with an attitude that didn't sound very sorry at all, "You guys know I want to be a reporter, and I need the practice! Rachel and her clone was the best story I could find!"
"She's not a clone!" Leo told him. I wasn't really paying attention anymore. Everyone else in the room was looking over at me. I could feel their stares at my back, pointing and whispering behind their copies of the newspaper. Apparently it was the best-selling issue the it had ever had.
"How'd you get their photos?" Arella asked Ryan shyly. She's like a sister to me. I know she has a crush on Ryan. But that didn't make me think the situation was any cuter.
"I hacked into the yearbook files and found their school photos from last year, then photoshopped them over a different background. No biggie." Ryan informed us, leaning back casually in his chair.
"Cooooooool," Leo and Michael complimented him in reverence. Then all four eighth-graders winced under the combined glares from Mar'i, Katie, Andre, and me.
"Sorry," they all whispered meekly.
I couldn't help it, I snapped.
"Sorry!?!?!? "Sorry" doesn't cut it. You all know I like my privacy, and making me a headliner- on TOP of you-know-what, -is NOT helping." I yelled at Ryan.
The whole classroom quieted. I groaned at my mistake and grabbed my bag, heading for the door.
"I'll be at the tower," I whispered to Katie.
-------
After arriving at the tower, I changed into my Titans uniform and went down to the shore. My music blasted in my headphones, and I became completely lost in the sounds. I was too busy listening that I didn't notice when Andre came up behind me.
He didn't say anything, thankfully, but to be polite, I turned off my music and took off my headphones. Mom says it's always a good thing to work on being polite. Of course that's easy for her to say, she was a princess, and princesses are all about being polite.
"So....why exactly are you upset about that article in the paper?" Andre asked awkwardly.
"I don't know, why are you here?" I asked him before I could think. So much for being polite.
"I don't know," Andre shrugged, staring at the waves.
I sighed, "Well, A). Ryan invaded my privacy. And B). My parents think that Rose is my long-lost twin sister, and yes, I do have one of those," I added at Andre's apprehensive look.
What am I doing? I never tell anyone a secret before I tell Katie, unless my parents demand to let me know. And even then, I usually lie or try to get out of telling them.
I didn't get a chance to reflect on my decision, because an alarm began to blare from the tower, and my yellow Titan communicator began to beep, as did Andre's.
"Trouble." He observed simply.
I can't really explain why, but I won't be updating for a while. :( Sorry.
