Kanda's eyes opened slowly. At first he wasn’t sure what had awaken him. His body was unresponsive due to the enchanted sleep he had put himself in. The darkness was complete. He couldn’t see anything of his surroundings. There wasn’t a sound that reached his ears. He strained to hear something of the goings on within the boat. No sound came.
Slowly he began to remember. They had been planning there escape What if Tyki had been planning his revenge. He tried to move, yet his body wouldn’t listen. This happened when his mind came to before he was done reviving his body. Suddenly he felt himself fall. He tumbled in the air, the darkness not giving him any clue as to what was happening. He heard the splash as his body hit the water. Noise came back to him as his senses fully awakened. In the enchanted sleep he had been defenseless.
It took him some time to get out of the cloaking bag the Earl must have put him in. Or more truthfully had him shoved in. Kanda swam to the surface. He saw the stern of the ship. It was already at least a mile away. He worried for his friends. Then another thought invaded his head making his heart race. The face of the white haired boy.
“Allen.” He breathed. “I will find a way to save you.” He vowed. Panic gripped his heart as he wondered just what the boy may have to suffer through until he could get to him.
Kanda forced the thought from his mind. He was alone now. The moon reflecting on the still water. He slowed his frantic heart. He would find a way out of this mess. He would get Allen back. He would find the others.
Lost in his thoughts he saw something struggling not far away. Swimming over to the bag with feet, he untied the rope holding the boy inside. With numb fingers he uncovered the small Daisya. Of course the Earl knew the two had been friends. Lavi, it appeared, had been better at hiding his feelings for the magician.
“We got tossed overboard.” Daisya muttered. Kanda spun in the water as another head popped up. Krory looked to be better than his friends. He answered the unspoken question in the swordsman’s eyes.
“I dove into the water to stick the rudder.” He explained. As if to punctuate his statement there was an explosion on the ship. It looked like the Earl’s cabin was a blaze.
“Wow that was bigger than I thought.” Daisya commented as smoke poured over the ship.
“Nice work. Now we need to get back on that ship.” Kanda grumbled.
“There shouldn’t have been any flames.” Daisya said slightly bewildered. Kanda brushed it off. They started to swim to the ship. It was veering to the port side. Listing in the water. It was obviously damaged.
“What did you use?” Kanda asked struggling to swim and talk. Daisya either didn’t hear or just chose not to answer him. He tsked into the water as he continued to swim after the sliver eyed boy. He knew Lavi was good at taking care of himself.
Before they got close a smaller boat came out of nowhere. It nearly cut Krory's head off. Not that the samurai would mind that. The people on board saw the three swimmers. Hungry blood thirsty pirates. They dragged each one out of the water. Knocking them unconscious as they dragged them to safety.
Kanda awoke, again, to a gentle hand brushing at his brow. Blinking he tried swatting it away. “Finally, you’re awake.” A slightly irritated voice said. The sun shone directly into the magicians eyes. He had to twist sideways to see who was with him.
“Who all made it?” he grouched at no on in particular. It was the jester Daisya that decided to answer.
“Krory is over there.” He pointed to their left. Glancing around the magician saw the fang boy huddled between two others from the ship. They were in a large cage that was obviously below deck. The sun came from a hole right above them. Everyone the magician could see was young. Mid to late teens, or younger. None older. He scanned them all.
“Lavi and Allen are missing.” Daisya said quietly.
“Let’s hope the one eyed pirate was able to get him to safety.” Kanda muttered.
“Slave traders, just our fate. How are we going to find them again?” the jester complained. Kanda squeezed his leg.
“We have to.” Was all he allowed himself to say. He pushed up against the wall as the others were. He knew it was useless to fight just yet.
“I’m sure they will get a pretty copper coin for all that gorgeous hair of yours.” The boy to his right said glaring as the wind blew Kanda’s long locks into his face again.
“Don’t make me hit you.” He growled. Silence fell upon them. There wasn’t much else to do right now. Kanda closed his eyes.
It had been a long time since he prayed. Even longer since he believed there was anything to pray to. Yet without much more to do he found himself falling back on old habits. He prayed to anything that might be listening to keep Allen safe. Just until they were together again.
