Elisa Whitmen was a simple girl. At 28 years old, she already had a job at the local hospital as a nurse and a comfy little house in the middle of Lancaster, PA. In her previous years at college, Elisa had met a wonderful man that went by the name of Jaxon Barnes. He was a fun and loving person who did whatever he could to win Elisa over. The first time they met was not the best, but none the less it brought them together.
The first time Jaxon saw Elisa was during his sophomore year in the coffee shop at their college. Not only did he think she was beautiful, but he knew he needed to meet her. He quickly jumped behind her in line and carefully tapped her shoulder.
"Excuse me but I think you may have cut in front of me" Jaxon said, pretending to be serious as he furrowed his eyebrows.
Elisa looked around for a second, waiting for someone else to respond, then back at Jaxon. "Oh, I'm sorry. I really didn't mean to" she spoke softly, "Please, go ahead."
Jaxon walked in front of Elisa and was next in line. The barista called him up and asked what he would like. Jaxon responded with, "Two large coffees please, with extra cream and sugar." The barista made the coffees then handed them over to Jaxon. They were warm in his hand and the overwhelming smell of coffee hit him. He then turned around and proceeded to approach Elisa. She was scrolling through her social media accounts when Jaxon began to speak.
"Here, I got this for you." Jaxon smiled as he reached out to hand the coffee over.
Elisa looked up from her phone and asked, "What is it?"
Jaxon responded with, "A coffee with extra cream and sugar."
Elisa hesitated, not wanting to hurt his feelings, "I'm really sorry... but I don't like coffee, I drink tea." She returned a sorrowful look to Jaxon.
"Next please!" The barista called out.
"I'm sorry! Thank you so much though..." Elisa said before squeezing herself between a chair and Jaxon; heading towards the barista.
Jaxon hung his head low and began to walk in the direction of the door. Then Jaxon felt a tap on his shoulder and with hopes that it was Elisa, he turned around. He had an excited look on his face before discovering it wasn't her.
"I like coffee with extra cream and sugar." A short teenage girl told to him.
Without saying a word, Jaxon handed over the coffee and walked out of the coffee shop. Thinking about why he had even tried and that he screwed everything up. Then on top of all that he hadn't even gotten her name.
"Wait!" A voice screamed.
Stuck in his own thoughts and unknowing of who the command was directed towards, Jaxon continued on his way to class.
"Excuse me! Please! Please wait up!"
Jaxon looked over his shoulder to see Elisa running after him. By the time she got to him, her breaths were rapid and she'd managed to spill some tea on her hands and arms. Quickly catching her breath and wiping her hands onto her jeans, Elisa smiled at Jaxon and laughed. She reached her hand out and offered her hand to Jaxon. He took her hand, confused on the gesture she was making.
Elisa shook her hand up and down slowly, "Hi, I'm Elisa. I just wanted to say thank you again for being so sweet and trying to get me a cup of coffee."
Jaxon snapped out of his weird trance and smiled back at her, "Of course, anytime."
Elisa looked at him funny and Jaxon had no idea what he had done wrong. Elisa waved her hand at him with a face telling him to continue. Jaxon was still confused, turned his head to the side, then finally understood what she was trying to initiate.
