Into the Deep (Part 1)

The water surrounds me like vultures to a carcass.

The darkness blinds me and the cold seeps in.

My paddle and board block the way out. I can't reach the surface.

I feel myself drifting past the boundaries of the lake as I struggle under the water.

I reach out, my movements slow and pained, my hand grasping cold, cold water.

The light at the surface gets dimmer and dimmer, as I sink further and further.

I'm running out of breath and my body is seizing up.

Suddenly, out of the blue, a warm, smooth object brushes my outstretched hand. I shove the paddle board off with all my strength and turn around in the water trying to see what bumped me. Suddenly,  a huge animal passes in front of me and pushes me backwards. It swoops around and around me, making me tumble again and again. Then it passes underneath me and my hand catches on its bode and I hold on for dear life as it glides and swoops in the water. It starts to slow down and I feel its warm, smooth body beneath me, and what seems to be wings on its sides. I go through the list of animals in my head that may have wings and lives underwater and I remember the Manta Ray. I run my hand along the Ray's smooth skin and it suddenly dives down, deeper than I've ever been before. As we go deeper, the ocean seems to light up with bio-luminescent blue lights. I can now see that we are FAR from the lake I was stand-up paddle boarding in and we are now in the open ocean. The Ray swerves to the side and approaches a wall of rock, with a small opening in it. The Ray swoops and barrel rolls, slipping into the opening with ease. The water is clearer here and I can see that we're in an underwater cave.

The Ray surfaces and I look around to see that the cave is filled with glow worms and stalactites. I climb off the Ray and onto the bank, the rock beneath me cool and hard, a relief after being in the water for so long. I lay back on the ground and look up to the glow worms above me. Suddenly, water rains down on me and I bolt upright. The bloody Manta Ray just splashed me! I kneel down at the edge of the water and splash it back. It dives and comes back up again, raining down on me a wave of blue water. I laugh and dangle my feet in the water, gently kicking and splashing droplets of water on the surface.

After a few moments, ripples start to form on the surface of the water, a dark shape swimming into the cave. I back away from the waters edge and position myself in a fighting stance, should the worst case scenario happen. Rising up from the water seems to be a head of white-blond hair. Lazily, the head breaks the surface, and a face covered in hair faces me. The figure flips it's hair back revealing a stunningly beautiful face. A young girl, around my  age smiles at me and I gape back like the school of fish she's brought with her.

"Don't look so shocked. What did you expect, a dolphin?" She laughs, swimming to the shore and propping herself on the ledge, her long hair covering her bare chest.

"Well, a dolphin might be more believable honestly." I say, studying her face for any sign of deception. I can barely choke the words out, I'm so shocked.

The young mermaid strokes one of the small fish that followed her. She looks up at me and says, "Come with me. I have something I've been waiting to show you for a long time."

"But I can't go in the water for too long, I'll drown!" I exclaim to the mermaid.

"Come here." She says, backing away from the rock pool's edge. Finally trusting her a bit, I carefully slip in and grip the ledge, kicking frantically.

"Wait." I say. "What is your name?"

The mermaid smiles and says "Calypso. Now come here." She holds her arms out for me and I gently swim towards her where shes treading water in the middle of the pool. When I reach her arms, she grips my waist with one hand and cups my cheek with the other, tipping my head back to meet her iridescent blue eyes. My eyes must be giving me away, as she says "Don't worry."

Before I can register what is happening, warm lips are on mine, smooth hands caressing my face, gently easing away the fear and worry. Warmth floods me and I melt into Calypso's arms, hooking mine around her neck. She pulls me closer and I can feel her rather large chest against mine. Swimming suddenly becomes easier, and my breathing eases up, my lungs no longer aching. Calypso starts to move and I feel water rising over my head. But I am not scared this time around. Water rushes past my ears but don't get blocked. My legs don't get cramped up from kicking. My lungs aren't at their bursting point. Calypso's lips leave mine, her hand on my cheek drifting from my face to my waist, holding me close as we swim through the warm ocean water.  The school of fish follow behind us with the Ray as we glide past reefs, coral beds and kelp forests. We come across a large underwater sand dune and we stop at the base of it.

"Don't freak out, ok? For this to work you need to stay calm." She grips my hand and squeezes and leads me to the top of the dune.

We look over the dune to a thriving reef bed. Schools of fish move in and out of coral and seaweed sway with the current. "I wasn't expecting this to be so deserted." I say, straining my eyes to see anything unusual.

"Oh, they're hiding, sorry about that." Calypso releases my hand, leaving it cold, and reaches into a bag slung around her hips and pulls out a small shell. She puts it to her lips and gently blows, creating ripples in the water. Slowly, movements start to form and heads pop up in the reef. Blond and brown and auburn heads peer around and some blue faces with huge eyes.

"Who are the blue ones?" I ask, gesturing to the reef and the heads, which are slowly turning into bodies, then tails and legs.

"The blue ones? Oh, you mean the water nymphs. Some new residents, honestly." She takes my hand again and guides me towards the reef. "It's ok. She's who we've been waiting for." Calypso glances at me and back at the reef, which is slowly filling up with mermaids, mermen and nymphs.

Some swim a bit closer and some watch from a distance as I near with Calypso. Some mermaids with elegant, jeweled tails swim up to me and shake my hand, others wrap their arms around me in welcome. A group of nymphs swim up to us in ripped and delicate dresses and shorts, barely covering them, and ask me for my name. Their large, inquisitive eyes survey me as I swim closer to the reef with Calypso.

We approach the largest bit of the reef and theres a little hole in the front. We swim through it. both of us barely fitting together, and we enter a large chasm in the rock. It's bigger on the inside, like the Tardis, and opens into a literal throne room. There, on a throne, sits the most elegant, gorgeous, postured mermaid I have ever seen.

"I have been expecting you for a while now, my dear. Did you have a good trip with my daughter?" She says to me in a soothing, gentle voice. I gape at Calypso, who shyly smiles at me. "I can explain for you if you would like?" The mermaid holds out her hand for me to take. I swim away from Calypso to her and take her hand...

A/N: This was a bitch to finish, but it was so fun to write. And somehow I managed to make it gay. Part 2 coming out soon!!
