Damon had to listen to Stefan try and get the guts to ask you on a date. It was annoying so Damon took Stefan's phone without his knowledge and set you two up. Stefan almost killed him, but in the end he was glad for the effort that Damon made into asking you out. It wasn't rude or cocky.
