Chapter 4: Confession

This day, Qinghe decided to focus on soldiers and their relationship with Mulan. Concubines would participate as well, and Daoming Si would only play their supervisor's role, taking a break with his particular scenes with his sweetheart.

The Daoming group's young heir tried to hide his frustration as best as he could. After all, he knew that Shancai would come to his home the same evening, and they could continue to practice together – especially since Qinghe seemed to like their work.

He looked at Shancai, Ximen, Meizuo, and Chen Pipi, who were performing a song. The soldiers were bored during their long walk and began to dream about pretty women. Mulan, slightly disoriented, tried to participate in their ideal woman dream as best as she could. "How 'bout a girl who's got a brain. Who always speaks her mind?"

Immediately, the soldiers made a disgusted look and went on giving their point of view – misogynist, of course – while Mulan, face purple with rage, tried to keep calm. So, she looked discreetly at Shancai, wondering what kind of woman he would prefer, but the man fell on deaf ears and ignored their talks.

Hoping she wouldn't be spotted, she admired his profile, his stature, and couldn't help but blush. She had never seen such a handsome man, and she had never been so close to one of them. She wondered what would he think if he saw her as a woman. What would have happened if her parents presented her to him as a potential bride? Would he choose her? Would he like her?

Her heart fluttered a little more in her chest, and, like the character she was playing, Shancai admired Daoming Si, who played Shang, remembering their past kisses.

"Excellent!" Exclaimed Qinghe, waking her up. "We can practice the next scene!"

Blushing and confused, Shancai pretended to go to the bathroom while the next scene's actors got ready. She and Daoming Si didn't participate; they could enjoy a little break. She moistened her face, trying to clear her mind and to calm down, still overwhelmed by the feelings she had every time she looked at the Daoming group's young heir.

When she came back, the three concubines and the soldiers began to practice. Shancai couldn't help but wince when she saw Xiaoyou giggling in front of Ximen's charming stare. Knowing Don Juan's personality of that tea expert, she only could be worried about her best friend, who tended to be naïve.

Shancai fidgeted on her seat while Ximen hand-kissed Xiaoyou, the young man smiling seductively, making the young milk tea salesgirl blushed deeply. She met Daoming Si's stare, and he seemed to wonder what was going on. Shancai blushed and explained why she was concerned. "Don't worry, Xiaoyou isn't his type of girl!" answered Daoming Si, shrugging.

Shancai pouted skeptically, and Daoming Si followed her stare. Ximen was adjusting Xiaoyou's outfit, making her giggle a lot. "Well, ok, I admit he seems to flirt with her." Daoming Si nodded. Then, turning toward Shancai, he added, "But isn't Xiaoyou being a grown-up girl? Why do you feel you have to play the mum with her?"

Immediately, Shancai darkly glared at him. Then, noticing the young man wasn't teasing her at all, she calmed down and frowned, thinking about his question. "Xiaoyou believes in the goodness of people; she never mistrusts anyone and trusts anybody. She's real sunshine, and I wouldn't like that someone destroys her." She answered truthfully.
