In the dead of the night, I had a magical dream;

My arms spread wide open, you nestled in between.

Our faces split in grins, your eyes shining bright;

The only thing I wanted was, to get lost in your sight.

But woke up with a start, when you disappeared;

My arms were open, face soaked in tears.

Remember John's party, you wore that red scarf?

I said it was ugly and pretended to barf.

But I stole it the next day, coz it had your warmth;

Now wrapped near my heart, it gives me comfort and calm.

My knees still buckle from your feminine scent;

It reminds me of your brownies and those vases you paint.

And your guilty smile when you wipe the overspilled milk,

And how you categorize the bedsheets into linen and silk.

Training's got harder, my whole body is sore;

But your words kept me going, "Just a little bit more".

This ice-cold temperature wants to curb me and scar;

So does the enemy, snow covered; hidden afar.

Strict discipline and punishments; Honey, I am so tired;

Every day when sun sets, I just crave for your fire.

Crevasses and avalanches, there's no room for a fall

But it was worth it when we saved lives, and they blessed us all.

I think it's been two weeks since I properly slept;

But you think I don't know, that you worried and wept?

I know you made me promise, that I have to come back;

But it seems a little difficult now, coz we are under attack.

Your words echo in my mind as I jump to take cover;

But its already too late, and I am doubled over.

Now I am lying here battered, blood painting my face;

They are trying to help me, but I know its lost case.

As I'm waiting for the life, to flash past my eyes;

All I see is you, so pretty; on our wedding in white.

Don't want to admit it, but I am fucking terrified;

Bullets and curses flying past, I don't want to die.

For I need a one last chance, to be able to tell you;

NOT A SINGLE DAY GOES BY, LOVE; WHEN I HAVEN'T MISSED YOU.

A/N : I tried to convey what I felt would be emotions of a soldier battling for his country on the field through this poem. This is the first time I have written something so I would greatly appreciate your feedbacks.
