She remembers him, but she isn't sure from where.
"Y-You k-killed..." She forces the words to escape her lips.
"That man is a demon." The man simply responds, his expression is as emotionless like the calm ocean, nothing can be read on his face.
"W-What are y-you talking abou—."
The man didn't let her finish her sentence as he extend out his hand sideway to where the body of the man is laying on the uneven surface ground, the torch in his hand lights up in the darkness. The soul seems to left her body when the scene before her reflects in her orbs.
The body of the man is starting to crumble away, disappearing into thin air... it's like she is stuck in a fantasy world, a virtual reality, a nightmare that is too real.
But it hurts. The pain is a continuous reminder that this is the reality. Her reality.
"Get back to town. Don't wander in the wood at night." The man places the torch in her trembling hand and swiftly wrap a small rope around so she does not drop the torch.
Then the stranger stood up, taking steps to walk away.
"W-Wait!" Y/n calls out. The young woman puts all the strength in her legs to stand up. Nothing makes sense, nothing. But one thing she is sure of... this man saved her. "C-Can I ask for your name sir?"
The man, with his side facing her, the light of the torch now barely reaches him, stood in silence momentarily.
"Giyuu." His soft and monotonous voice breaks the scary silence of the wood.
Something flies over her side and a pouch is dropped on the ground.
"Carry that pouch with you. It's wisteria flower, it keeps the demon away." Giyuu said before turning away.
It's surreal. Demons. Something she only sees in movie and manga and folktales. But now it is her reality. As much as she wants to slap herself to wake up, all this is real.
"G-Giyuu! Wait!" She runs up to him but stops a few feet away, his mere presence makes her nervous. As if he will disappear if she approaches him too close. "C-Can I go with you? I have no where to return to. You saved my life, I want to repay you somehow as we—."
"It's my job to slay demon. You don't owe me anything." Giyuu cuts the conversation short and continues taking steps.
Y/N follows right behind.
"I... I really have no where to return to. May I go with you, Giyu?u I'll make myself useful. Anything, I'll do anything." She clutches tightly onto the pouch."
"I have no need for anyone else."
With that short sentence, Giyuu disappears from her sight. She quickly looks around, holding the torch here and there, but she could not see him. He disappeared just like how he appeared. Soundlessly, just like the wind."Giyuu!" She didn't even get the chance to introduce herself. "Giyuu!"
She continues calling for him, looking hopelessly in the dark wood.
"Giyuu!!!"
But Giyuu never appears again. The ray of the sun lights up in the horizon, brushing away the darkness of the night with its soft ray. Last night, was frightening. The image still imprinted in her mind.
She strolls through the wood now that she can see the surrounding more clearly. She washes off the blood on her face and clothes with the small river nearby. The deep red color blood that tainted her skin sends chill down her spine. She wants to cry, she just wants to close her eyes and she hopes when she opens them again, she is back in the crowded and lively city of Tokyo in 2022...
