"Mom," I yell from upstairs, "where are you?"

I slowly make my way from one room to another as I try to find my mom so I can ask her what will be for dinner. Finally, I find her in the living room talking with my father.

"What is it dear?" she asks. "I'm hungry."

"Well we are having lasagna, but you need to wait for your brothers to get home before you can eat," dad replies.

Groaning to myself, I head back up to my room.

Its weird that they're making me wait for Gryffin and Jaxon to get back from their friend's house. Normally, if its not Sunday, dinner is laid back and everyone eats when they want to.

It's especially annoying because I happen to be quite the impatient eight year old.

Finally, after thirty minutes of waiting around, they get home. I know this because I can hear their loud rough housing and laughter carry through the house. Within minutes, everyone is sitting around the table about to dig in to the food when dad clears his throat.

"Lottie, Gryffin, Jaxon, we have some important news for you. As you know, there have been a few changes at my work, and as a result, we are being relocated to Australia."

Wait, what?!?!?!

I don't know what to think. I can tell that dad is being dead serious, but its extremely hard for me to wrap my mind around he said.

The idea of moving from my home town in America- in freaking Indiana, the middle of nowhere- to freaking Australia is just too far stretched and too much for me to process at the moment.

By the looks of it, Jax and Gryf were trying to grasp at the idea as well.

"What?! We can't leave, what about our lives here. All my friends are here," exclaims my oldest brother, Jax, while Gryf, the middle child says, "Australia? Really? That is so cool! When do we leave?"

I start to zone out, but through the shock, I recall mom saying that we'll be there in a month.

Hearing this, I pull myself out of the stupor I fell into, and immediately ran up to my room. I hastily shut the door and feel tears running down my face. I can't believe this is going to happen.

My whole world is literally crumbling around my feet.

There is no way I can possibly imagine leaving my home or my two best friends, Molly and Becky, behind. We met back in Kindergarten and have been inseparable ever since. They are practically the sisters I never had, and I don't know if our friendship will survive a move across the world.

My parents seemed to know that I would be the most upset out of everyone, so they let me have my space.

I am so upset right now, that when mom does decide to check in on me, I give her the silent treatment. I don't want to be mad and feel this way, but I just can't help it.

I wait until recess the next day at school before I break the news to Molly and Becky. The whole time I avoid looking at them and instead stare down at my feet for the fear of what might happen if I see their faces.

"Oh Lottie."

My head snaps up as I hear Becky say my name.

When it does, it only takes one shared glance before we are all holding on to one another and balling our eyes out.

We make sure to spend the next few weeks together by having sleepovers daily, running around the neighborhood together, and just doing anything and everything we can possibly think of.

Finally, the day comes when I have to leave.

Molly, Becky, and my other friends and family come to see us off. Tears are freely flowing down more than just one face. As I hug them Becky and Molly goodbye, we make a pact to always be there for each other, even if we can't be there physically.

The three of us disentangle ourselves from the embrace and with one last wave, I board the plane and step towards whatever the future holds for me in Australia.
