It has been almost 3 weeks since I left America. Since I left Indiana. Since I left my friends and extended family.

Three weeks since I've been to school.

My parents decided to let me, Jax, and Gryf stay home for so long so we could get adjusted to our new surroundings, but they felt like anything longer than 3 weeks would be too much.

So here I am about to walk into my third grade class at my new school. I took a deep breath and opened the door.

The clicking of the door knob caused all 25 or so sets of eyes in the classroom to zone in on me. Mrs. Schneider, the elderly teacher, called me over to her desk and asked me to introduce myself to the class.

Hesitantly, I stepped forward saying, "Hi! My name is Lottie Jones. I'm eight years old, and I just moved here from America."

I rushed through my words and looked to Mrs. Schneider, who then directed me to an empty seat.

I sat awkwardly in class as I awaited recess and lunch to roll around.

When we were released, I waited for the other kids to leave so I could find someone to follow. I felt a light tap on my right shoulder and looked behind me to find a blonde boy with shockingly blue eyes.

"Hi! I'm Luke!" he said, "Do you want to hang out with me during recess?"

Shyly, I just nodded your head and followed him out to the playground.

As we walked, he kept making silly faces and doing goofy things to try and make me laugh.

I couldn't help it and I ended up having to stop because I was laughing so hard. When I composed myself, Luke had the biggest grin plastered on his face.

After that, I didn't feel awkward or uncomfortable, I felt like I was right where I needed to be.

"So Lottie," Luke said, "tell me about yourself."

"What do you want to know?" I replied.

"Anything. Here, I'll go first. Luke and it is NOT short for Lucas. My middle name is Robert. I love penguins. Like I seriously LOVE them. I have two older brothers and my birthday is July 16."

"Okay," I drew out as I tried to think, "Lottie isn't short for anything, but people think its short for Charlotte. My middle name is Estella. I also have two older brothers. My birthday is March 15, and I love dogs."

We continued on like this all through lunch and to the end of school.

By the time school ended, I knew one thing for sure: Lucas Robert Hemmings would become my best friend.
