The family

People came out of the bus, all of them looking the same age as us. Some were nervous, and some were talkative like they were on a school field trip. The soldier that clearly commanded them, shushed them and calmed down his group.

"It's nice to meet you all! We came from the east, we picked up groups on the way. Where is your commanding officer?" The soldier speaking to us asked. Some of us shrugged and looked for Sam, who had already immediately jumped up.

"H-here! Sir!" He saluted to the soldier. This soldier hair a shaved head, almost a buzz cut. He was taller, about six foot three, and strangely buff, almost as if he were on steroids. I decided to continue working and some people began to follow my actions. I ignored these new people, they were distracting and loud. When I began hammering some nails into a post to finish the structure of a house we were finishing some of the new people came up to us.

"Hi, nice to meet you!"

"Do you want some help?"

"This house is huge!"

"Do you need us to do anything?"

The questions and greetings annoyed me, but I only pointed them in Javier's direction while smirking. He clearly enjoyed the attention and smiled at them. Nicolas also smiled, some of these new girls were giving him goo-goo eyes. Little did they know they were in for a surprise of a lifetime. I heard footsteps follow me as I walked towards the next house to help finish setting up structures. These footsteps followed me all the way there till I finally let out a sigh and turned around.

When I did, a girl shorter than me smiled. She had green eyes, and short brown hair, her clothes were white like mine but she wore a hoodie instead of a shirt. She seemed relieved that I finally had seen her. I tilted my head waiting for her to speak, clearly she had something to say.

"Hi, I um, I was wondering if I could stick with you, maybe ask if you can show me the ropes around here?" She gives a nervous laugh. I raise an eyebrow as if referring to myself, confused as to why she would want to even talk to me.

"Only if you're okay with it! I just um, I don't like those guys over there they seem a bit. Odd." This time I chuckle at her words. If only she knew what they were like. She smiles at my laugh and looks around.

"It looks like you guys are already doing great at rebuilding, six houses in a year of being out? That's amazing!" She looks at all of our hard work in admiration and I nod. We busted our asses getting this done, so I know our accomplishments are great.

"Show me what you're working on?" She asks and I nod, heading towards the direction I was earlier. Some people were sanding down wood or hammering in nails, drilling holes. It was good that we saved tools from our time in our original home. All of our essential equipment gave us an advantage.

"Hey Caligo!" Someone from my group waved at me and I waved back. His name is Andrew, he was 5'6 almost as tall as I am. He hopped down from the side of the house where I was repelling off of. He had a tool belt on, and sweat on his face. His hair was a mop of chocolate brown, and he wore glasses that were hanging off of his nose.

"You must be one of the new people around here. Hi, my name is Andrew, and I see you've met Caligo. She doesn't talk much, or at all but she's really nice!" I look at the ground while he comments on my not speaking problem.

"I should have introduced myself earlier! My name is Letty. I've noticed she's not much of a talker." Referring to me obviously. "I don't mind it though. I don't want her to feel uncomfortable." She smiles at me and I give her a small smile in return. I grab her hand and Andrew's and hold them together, then nod over to the hammer. They both blush slightly from the contact but realize what I had been trying to say. We all pick up some tools and get to work on the new house.
