A black, shining Audi car stops in a porte-coshier of a modern and high building in Seoul. The intimidating woman in the back seat stepped out of the car and looked at the people who were waiting for her outside the building.
"Good day, Ms. Manoban, welcome to LM Holdings Incorporation!" The employees, including the Executive Directors of the company are present that morning to meet and greet Lalisa Manoban on her first day in her father's company.
She gives everyone a simple nod as an acknowledgment before she walks with conviction and passes into the automatic glass door of the building. The tall and charismatic woman is the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the company. She had to take over the position of her father when the man died a few weeks ago, she just arrived from New York City a day after she found out the sad news about her beloved father.
When Lisa entered her new, big and minimalist office on the 11th floor, she was greeted with a huge smile by the woman with cat-eyes who was patiently waiting for her.
"Welcome to the company, Chairman and CEO Lalisa Manoban," Jennie said with a smirk, giving Lisa a warm hug.
Jennie Kim has been Lisa's best friend since birth. There is no reason why they shouldn't be a great friend when both of their fathers are best friends. Jennie is the petite woman who adores and understand her best and embraces everything about her, including her flows.
Lisa recalls that, particularly throughtout their time in school, she was always turn to Jennie for help. She was her protector from all the bullies who picked on her. She's one of those people who is willing to offer the best advice while patiently listening to all of her problems and concerns about life.
"Thank you, Jennie. Anyway, do you need anything from my office?" Lisa asks her best friend after they separated from the hug.
"Honestly, I just want to make sure and check on you to see if you're ready to work." Jennie says in a concerned voice.
"I'm alright, Jennie. We did see each other everyday during the funeral service," Lisa replies solemnly and settles in her seat.
There are numerous essential documents on her table that demands her full attention. This line of work is not new to Lisa. She's the CEO of their subsidiary construction company, which based in New York City but now, she needs to double her efforts to learn how to manage a large-scale company in South Korea.
"Lisa, you were silent the whole time and I do understand that, but we didn't even have a real conversation after the burial." Jennie replies in frustration.
She glances at the woman in front of her with guilt. Jennie was right, she did avoided interacting with those who showed sympathy and expressed grieving over her father's remains. She never trusted anyone except for her father, Jisoo, Jennie and her parents, who helped and assisted her father during the time when she left the country ten years ago.
Her family scandal has had a significant impact on Lisa and her father's lives that until today, Lisa will never forget.
Her father, Leon Manoban was a good and loving father to her even before the family scandal. Despite his busy schedule at work, he never once forgot to give Lisa the attention and affection she deserves. He raised her well and provided for her needs. Also, there's a sense of physical and emotional security everytime. Her father was her pillar and it was hard for Lisa to accept that her father would never come back again.
"How are you? Please, tell me the thruth, Lisa." Jennie asks, voice full of concern.
"You don't have to worry about me. I'm okay." She assures her friend.
