Captivated

"Nikki I don't wanna go," I felt a tug at the bottom of my black sweater than can only be owned by the tiny hand clamped around it.

"Augie, we don't have a choice buddy. These nice people are going to take care of us," I glanced at our new foster parents who seemed to have got bored of us already and were smoking outside the taxi cab.

Florence, the house mother who has taken too many drugs, and her boyfriend Patrick who glanced at every young girl pervertedly.

I sighed and looked back at my little brother.

Augustus James Swan was 7 years old and smarter than I could ever be. With dark chocolate hair and honey eyes, he could kill the ladies with a single glance when he got older.

He grabbed onto his little duffel bag and muttered some words along the lines of "he lucky I love you." And wattled out the door.

I simply rolled my eyes picked up the rest of his bags, following him.

Our new "mom" gave us a look that screamed 'idiot children' and opened the taxi door, letting Augie jump in.

I put the small amount of his luggage in the back with mine and shut it. I made my way around the side to follow Augie once more until Florence flicked her cigarette on me and threw the remains on the ground.

I should be grateful I wore long sleeves so it wouldn't leave a mark. She rolled her eyes and hopped in the front seat, leaving Patrick to sit beside me.

"How is it going little mamas?"

I tried to ignore him but the hand I felt creeping up my leg proved otherwise. I swatted it away and looked forward, no emotion displaying.

This is my life. This is how it will ever be. When I turn 18, I am getting me and Augie out of this shit hole. I can't have him growing up the way we did.

The taxi driver looked at Florence and asked where to. After she gave him the directions he wolfed a low whistle. "That's a mighty good place ma'am," to which she responded with a smirk and an 'i know.'
