While I was sure, law school was the begin of my future, law school wasn't exactly feeling the same about me. Yes I did great, worked my butt of, maintained a good grade and got all my points to get to year two, but it all felt like shit when I got the letters. All my internship spots turned me down and now I had nowhere to go for the second half of my year. I had to delay everything, including my graduation trip to south-east Asia with my two best friends, cause they weren't total losers like me. Everything, and for what? A FRICKING DELAY.
No international internship, no internship in London, nowhere. I had nothing. I was in the top 5 of our class and everybody had a internship except for yours truly.
I just don't now why and how. I mean, sure I applied for the top of the top, but I was sure I belonged there. That's when my phone starts to ring. 'Nina is face timing me.' I ignore the call and look back at the ceiling of my apartment.
Maybe closet was a better word. I payed the lottery for this place and I had 20 square meters. This may sound like much, but this includes kitchen, livingroom/bedroom, toilet and bathroom. My phone starts to ring again and after I ignore this call as well, it rings three times more. Please, Nina, take a hint. I am too depressed to talk.
It's finally quiet and after 5 minutes I am convinced that she got the hint. I close my eyes and focus on my breath. "Relax drama queen, it's not the end of the world." I whisper.
"So what if your delaying for a few months, you can do whatever you want and save a bit up for later. It's not like you have a ton of money. When was the last time you bought some nice clothes or went to a fancy restaurant. Just look on the bright side and treat yourself right."
That's when I hear the buzzer. I sigh and look out of the window. Nope, no prince on a white horse or the guy that goes from house to house to tell them they have won the lottery. Too bad, but that also means that I won't leave my current whereabout.
I can't tell who it is, but it's probably a delivery man with a package for my shopaholic neighbor Samantha. Sorry Vince, you have to ditch it somewhere else this time.
I hear somebody approach the stairs and wait for the moment to hear him pass my door. That's when I hear the lock. My spare key. That means....
"Hi babe, why aren't you picking up your phone." I hear Spencer say while she takes place beside me. "Yeah, I've called you like a thousand times." Nina says while she takes place next to Spencer. I want to be alone. Why don't they take the hint. "I am depressed." I say. Trying to nuance my own temper. I mean yelling 'get out and leave me alone' isn't really healthy for our relation or will keep our friendship intact.
"Did you told her before me?" I hear Spencer mumble. "No, she wasn't picking up remember."
"I didn't got an internship for next spring. Nobody wanted me and now I just want to go out, drink and get back at everything I had to distance myself from cause I was to busy trying to be the best. I am starting with Oliver tonight. I can finally start something serious with him, cause this school year will be a lot less busy."
"Maybe somebody else then Oliver, Lo. He... has a girlfriend. I saw them together. I stalked them and saw them kissing a lot. It looked pretty serious." I hear Spencer say while she helps me sit up and rubs my back.
You might think that was harsh. She just ripped the bandaid off. I like that. Go straight to the point and crash my hopes and dreams. It's way better than a sad story, some words of love and kindness and then after that the bad news.
"How is that possible. We had sex like two days ago and we talk this morning."
"It gets worse. I looked her up, since Oliver isn't that active on social media and it turns out they have been together for three months." Spencer ends while she tries her best not to look too remorseful. "I need tequila." I reply while standing up and walking to my kitchen. "Make that three." Nina says while grabbing a lemon. We're prepping the shots while Spencer is looking for nacho's and guacamole.
