The following day, Cole made his usual trip to Gran's restaurant, he wondered if Cassie was there. Yesterday's events were still unclear for him, certain things did not add up and the people involved were keeping quiet, not even his trusted friend Pete was forthcoming.
Walking into the restaurant the first thing he noticed was that Granny was behind her counter and not in the usual spot he had been finding her of late, usually sitting in the far end, chatting with Cassie...
"Morning...so where is your buddy?" He queried, walking over to Gran.
"Morning dear and who might you be talking about, everyone is my buddy, you've gotta be more specific?" Granny replied, raising her eyebrow.
"Let's cut to the chase. I'm asking about Cassie and you know it!" Cole spoke, not beating around the bush.
"Oh...She is at home." Gran said, not elaborating further.
"What...she embarrassed or something, has it got to do anything with yesterday's incident, by any chance, too guilty to come out and face the community?" He boasted, still imagining her muddy self.
Not really noticing the food missile making its way to his head, only when it hit him, did he come out of his daydream...
"Ow...what was that for?" Cole asked surprised, rubbing his cheek.
"That Boy...was only a starter." Gran huffed out, glaring at the stubborn boy before her.
"What did I do?" Still confused as to why he was receiving such violence from Gran.
Placing her hands on her hip, she glared at Cole, "Give that girl a break. She ain't that bad. And for your information, she ain't embarrassed, she's sick." Still glaring at Cole, "And you are going to help."
"What me? You're crazy. What for?" Cole blubbered out.
"Is your old age getting too you or have you forgotten that you are a doctor?" Gran asked sarcastically.
"I'm not that old." He stated, choosing to ignore the last part, finally understanding where Gran was going with her request, regretting being a doctor at this very moment, "You...do know I'm not the only doc around here?" Smirking, remembering his partner.
"And...?" Gran asked, not giving an inch, "Way I see it, you're here and that's all I need."
"But..." Cole tried again unsuccessfully, dodging another food projectile, "Dammit woman! Will you stop that!"
"Boy...you are pushing my patience! Either you help or the only food that you are getting from here is the ones you can catch!" Gran threatened, throwing another muffin at Cole.
"Fine! What do you need?" He asked, grabbing napkins, cleaning his face, glaring at Gran.
Smiling sweetly, Gran spoke, "I need you to take this chicken soup over to Cassie and while there check up on her. See if she needs meds or anything, according to Pete, she seemed to be limping."
"So...why didn't Pete take her the soup? Or even say anything when I saw him earlier?" Cole asked, really not liking the idea of going over there.
"Just do it!" Gran ordered, giving him a look.
So...here he was, knocking on Cassie's door, holding a container with chicken soup. Seriously...how did he get dragged into these things? Knocking again on the door with more force, hearing shuffling on the other side, waiting...
"What do you want?" A croaky voice asked.
Cole looked at Cassie, "You look like hell."
"Why thank you..." She replied sarcastically, closing the door in his face or attempting too.
Moving quickly forward, placing his foot to stop the door from completely closing, he winced, "Gran sent me." He rushed out, pushing the door open, waving the container in her face.
"Urgh...fine! I'm too sick to fight with you! Do your deed and then leave!" Cassie moaned, her head pounding, walking away from the door, towards the lounge, not bothering to look if he followed.
Cole followed Cassie, watching as she limped along, all wrapped in a blanket, She reminded him of a little kid playing with the bed covers, smiling at that thought, he made his way around the sofa, sitting on the coffee table, facing a glaring Cassie.
"The kitchen is that way..." Cassie pointed out, not liking the smirk on Cole's face, wishing she could just wipe it off...
Placing the container of soup next to him, Cole leaned forward, placing his hand on Cassie's forehead...
"What are you doing?" Cassie exclaimed, leaning back.
"Seeing if you've got a fever." Cole replied easily, taking note of her flushed face, "And since I'm a doctor, it's only natural to check."
"It's nothing...a slight cold. Will be gone in a day or two." Cassie responded, feeling uncomfortable under Cole's attention.
"Let me be the judge of that." He drawled out, "Besides if I don't do my duty...Gran is going to starve me!" He mumbled out the last part. Getting up, "I'm just going to get my medical bag, be right back."
"I can just lock you out..." Cassie replied, smiling at that thought.
"You could...But I'll just use the keys that James gave me." Patting her head, laughing as she glared at him.
Cassie was fuming, she was downright sick and now she had to contend with that ass. What did she ever do in her life, to deserve such misery? Not even realizing he was back, until she felt a hand on her arm, jumping slightly in fright, regretting it, when her body ached, "Do you have to scare the hell out of me?" She argued, glaring at Cole.
"Sorry...darling. You were spaced out." Cole replied, "Let's get this over and done with. The quicker it is done, the sooner I'm out of your hair."
