Did you know that when the clouds part just right, and the sunlight shines through as a defined ray, it means that someone's guardian angel has descended to earth. A Guardians primary job is to study their assigned human and to guide them through troubles in life. Fun fact: a person will have several different Guardians throughout their life, which are switched out depending on variables in their life and who is better suited for the task. Of course, we all have to start somewhere.

Thankfully, Oliver had been briefed on his human before descent, and was handed a rather large file of detailed information. Of course he was nervous about his first time, but he could ask other Guardians on Earth for advice.

He met his human in a storm drain, talking to himself, twirling a wet leaf as water trickled under his legs. Taken aback by this odd behavior, Oliver flipped through his file. "Difficulty socializing has lead to feelings of loneliness" is what it read.

Ok, that was a common issue with humans, Oliver thought, shouldnt be too hard.

"Peers tend to avoid him, causing him to be less approachable than before"

Ok.

"His actions and behavior from early stages of puberty have lead to rumors that continue to spread, but far deviate from the original."

...

Oliver closed the file. He reassured himself that this was a mild case compared to some job horror stories he heard. He listened to his human, Fukase, make nonsensical jokes and laugh to himself. Apparently he had also been trespassing, as a middle aged man came and stood on the driveway the storm drain ran under and poked at him with a gardening hoe. Fukase made a quick escape through the other side and out of the ditch. This is fine. I think.

Fukase has several spots around the neighborhood where he could be outside and rarely socialize. Another such spot across the street storm drain was a gazebo that looked over a pond. This spot was actually someone's backyard, so he didn't come by as much, but it was still marked on a map in Oliver's file.

Oliver only looked at the map for a second before Fukase left, muttering "it's too calm, I don't belong here". Is he getting moody?

Next destination, just down the road, was at the end of a long driveway. A vacant house surrounded by overgrown flora. If kept up properly it would've been a beautiful ranch style house with a big yard and fountain in front. The fountain only had water from the recent rain fall, but the pump was most likely gunked up with algae. Fukase wandered around the porch, peering in windows. Oliver peered in too. It was a dark and dusty circular room with built in shelves.

Fukase stopped humming to think out loud, "I don't think I ever have him that book of bedtime stories back...". Oliver pondered that and looked at the file. Turns out, a childhood friend lived here but moved away for unknown reasons. The file went on to say the friend was a chronic liar. What Oliver found curious was that the friends name was redacted. Surely anyone observing would've written a friends name. Though he couldn't question a superiors decision.

Steady drizzle of rain forced Fukase home, and Oliver followed with invisible presence. Half way home, the sky decided to release the flood gates in a sudden heavy downpour. The redhead instinctively broke into a sprint, laughing at the chaotic weather the area had been having for the past week, but enjoying the feeling of rain on his skin.

Arriving at Fukases house, he had to unlock the door to get in. No cars in the driveway. He removed his wet clothing and tossed them in the washing mashine, patting at his wet hair with a hand towel.  On the kitchen counter was a sticky note with instructions to start dinner. Oliver looked over the file while Fukase poured beef broth in the crockpot. "Both parents work out of town in an area with bad rush hour traffic. They get home typically around 7:00 pm". Fukase got an alert on his phone about flooding in the area and groaned. That meant his parents would get home even later as traffic would get worse, and he'd have to hear them complain about it over dinner. Oliver noticed the air get heavy and checked the file once more, "He tries to avoid his parents and personal questions, which causes them concern ."

After making sure the crockpot was heating up, Fukase flopped on the couch and turned the tv on, flipping through mostly static and "no signal" as the antenna did pretty bad in weather like this. Oliver took this moment of silence as an opportunity to analyze what he's learned so far. It seems that his human has held onto feelings of loneliness for so long that now he doesn't know how to address them; simple fix would be finding friends. Maybe he could ask a Guardian to push their human towards his! Yeah, that sounds like a plan. Oliver grinned to himself, feeling proud about his first assignment.

"So, what's up with you, Bird?"

Oliver's head shot up to see Fukase looking straight at him. That- that's not suppose to happen. "I'm- I'm sorry??" he responded in shock.

"You," Fukase pointed at him, remote in hand, "are you real or am I tripping?" He spoke nonchalantly as if it was normal to see a stranger with wings in your house.

That's when panic set in for Oliver. Fukase could see him.
