CHAPTER 4

The Letter

I remembered the envelope that Butler gave me so I got up and picked my bag from the chair. I searched it and finally found that old heavy envelope. I sat down and opened it.

There was a letter and an oval shaped pendant with a ruby in the center with a glistening diamond borderline. I opened the letter and read it.

Dear Artemisia:

If you are getting this it probably means that I am no longer with you. There were many things I wanted to tell you while I was alive but I never had the courage to tell you, to hurt my doll's delicate heart. I know you'll miss me; I'll keep looking at you from heavens.

My child I know your life is not easy and I know there'll be more ordeals for you after I am gone. I am sorry for leaving but if I am born I am to die. That's a bitter reality. But you have to stay strong because you are my blood. It's okay to be weak at times, don't hate yourself for being weak it only means that you still have a fire and thirst to fight, a space to become even stronger.

A shiver rolled down me. It was Grandpa who wrote that letter. My eyes were again swelling with tears. I sucked in air to stop myself from crying and read on.

Sia I want you to understand that things aren't always the way they seem to be. There's something very big going on behind your back. I can't tell you what because I am still investigating on it. I still don't know everything and I am sure when I'll be close to knowing I'll die. Be careful Sia, so much is going on in this palace. I want you to find it yourself. Frost group of companies and corporations is not just some industrialization. It has dark secrets. You are the only heiress of all this and you ought to know what this company does and you ought to get rid of it. Just don't let anyone know or suspect you or your plans. The enemy lies within your range.

And yes I am leaving this pendant for you; it was your grandmother's. I thought it would be good to pass it down to you. This is highly valuable and key to end all the sufferings. Take care of it!

Your Grandfather.

It was hard to take in the information Grandpa gave me. What does he mean by dark secrets hiding in Frost companies and corporations?

I read the letter again.

"I am sure when I'll be close to knowing I'll die." He said.

And my mind clicked. Oh My God.... No... I was right.... I was right about his death...he was murdered. He was trying to uncover some secret but the people he was chasing after found out about him and he was killed. I knew it.

I looked at the pendant that he left for me. It was beautiful. It was his and grandma's memory. I turned the pendant over. There was something inscribed in the metal. I tried to read the scrawly italics.

"A key to end suffering,

Love."

Same words were in his letter, "this is highly valuable and a key to end all the sufferings." These words meant more than they seemed to.

I put the letter and the pendant back in the envelope. He died four years ago and now I was getting this? Why? Who found it? Who had it till now?

I leapt at the intercom and called the butler who gave me this envelope.

"In my room, Now" I ordered and waited for him.
