Eight hours passed with only two stops, both bathroom breaks in small towns. Alle helped Lilly limp to the bathroom as the people around the pit stop, if any, stared at the girl with a torn sleeve, white gauze on her arm, and the almost invisible stains of blood on the back of what was left of her jacket which was luckily buried under the heavy green coat Alle placed over her shoulders to try and hide the blood and bruises. The worst part of it all was that Lilly was much too weak to put much effort into controlling those around her—she knew she could, but rathered not exert herself.
This was the first time Lilly felt any kind of sympathy or kindness from anyone other than Sin for a long time—and she knew Sin’s love was forced. She almost considered letting Sin get close and trusting this stranger not to tell, but decided that was a very bad idea. But she wasn’t quite ready to ever get that close with another person, not when her next order could be to kill him—she just never knew what to expect anymore.
At the end of the eight hours Alle could no longer drive without falling asleep at the wheel—his job was to safely get “the package” home, without endangering her further. Lilly saw him realize that driving in his current state was endangering both him and Lilly. He pulled into the parking lot of a motel in the decent sized city they were currently in—Lilly hadn’t been paying attention to what city—and couldn’t read the signs even if she did. The pleasing note on the dusty window of the motel marked that there still was a vacancy and that it had free Wi-Fi.
After checking into the room, which was conveniently on the first floor, Alle helped Lilly hobble inside and onto one of the two beds and went back to the truck to pull out a black suitcase, a laptop. Lilly sat on the bed, her ribs weren’t as painful anymore and the feeling that came back into her arm wasn’t as explosive as she expected.
She looked at Alle who was snapping open the suitcase and pulling the laptop out. This was the first time she actually got a good look at him, short—maybe five foot something, dark skinned, Arabian feel to him yet he spoke perfect English. His small body was thick with toned muscles—not large by any means, but taught. With his coat removed all he had on was a rugged leather jacket with its sleeves cut at the elbows and his heavy army-pants with boots.
“Do you have anything for pain?” Lilly asked after giving him one good look over.
“Yes, in the truck—let me go get it,” he left and came back into the room in under a minute. “Here, take two of these pills and they should numb the pain in five to fifteen minutes.” He handed Lilly a pair of green capsules. She sat slowly on one of the twin beds and looked at the pills.
Without thinking Lilly picked the pills out of his hand and swallowed them without water. About six minutes passed before the pain completely melted away. Lilly looked up at Alle, “Thanks—I’ll be back, I’m going to go see my doctor,” Lilly jumped out of the room—the numbness from the pills helped control her otherwise uncontrollable landings.
“Wait!” Alle said, a tad too late then continued quietly after she left, “Those will knock you out after about half an hour… Great… probably should have mentioned that right when you took them…”
The numbness helped her jump without hurting herself more but still slowed her considerably—a normal four to five minute trek quickly lengthened. A sudden and unexpected drowsiness overcame her while she was struggling to stay in the air over the Atlantic Ocean. Lilly wasn’t able to keep up as drowsiness locked her down and caused her to fall towards the ocean ten thousand feet below. In less than thirty seconds she went from wide-awake to sleeping mid-air.
Her eyes snapped open. Lilly looked around, she was in a bed—one she knew way to well. She really has to stop doing this. It was her room, her hospital room. Her head bounded as she looked to one side. Sin was sitting in a chair off by the wall, it looked as if he was asleep—and soaking wet. She looked down at herself, she was still in her same clothes, but somehow dry with exception of a small wet spot she felt on her butt and some slightly wet arm marks on her back. She looked to the other side of the bed and Dr. Hermaz was there looking at some chart—he said in his normal obedient tone, “Few broken ribs, broken finger, and you lost a load of blood. I’m surprised you made it this long without, taking some. But it’s all okay now, we got you some blood. You snapped into some kind of insane rage when Sin brought you into the hospitable. He looked up from the clipboard and past the foot of the bed, “Poor guy, he never stood a chance. I’m going to have to clean that mess up when you leave.” Lilly pulled her head up and looked to the foot of the bed, a dried up body with a doctor’s gown was falling apart on the tile. She didn’t remember doing that.
