Lunch turned out to be nothing special. Luke never showed up so I was alone for the hour to sit being watched by Mr. Santon. Actually Luke didn't show up to a single afternoon class. The teachers would call his name for attendance and all the students would look around but he wasn't in the room.
The bell rang signaling the end of the day. I walked to my locker expecting to run into Katie, but she did not show up. I grabbed by bag and shut my blue coloured locker. I grabbed my phone from my pocket and shot Katie a quick text.
'Hey Katie Cat I went home text me, and maybe we can hang out later xoxo Em'
I walked down the hall and out to the bikes. I unchained my bike and went home. When I reached my house. I put my bike in the garage and leaned it up against the wall.
"Mom I'm home!" I yelled.
There was no answer so I walked into the kitchen. On the fridge I saw a piece of paper with a note on it.
'M,
I'm out don't wait for me,there is food in the fridge.
-Mom.'
"Oh gee thanks for always being there for me," I sighed.
I ran up to my room and flipped through my music on my phone.
"Play damn you old phone," I said reapeatedly pressing the play button on my screen.
The music on my phone began to play and I hummed along as I open the black leather journal I had gotten back from Luke. Why did I bring it to class? What if he read it? It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, but I don't want anyone to know what makes me tick. Although better a stranger, I have less to loose. No! I shouldn't think about that, he didn't open it stop worrying.
I grabbed a black pen and began to write the events of the day. It started off simple mentioning practice and then getting into class. I brefly mentioned Luke's transfer and his surprising disapperance in the afternoon. It ended up as a rant about my horible mother and how she doesn't care, that I'm just a burden.
Mid rant my phone rang. Katie's name apeared on my screen and I sighed.
"Hello," I said.
"Em, I got your text." She said.
"And it said text me, it didn't say call me." I rolled my eyes.
"Whatever. You know how I feel about texting." she said sounding disturbed.
"It takes too long to say too little," I said repeating the words I had heard a thousand times.
"What did you want to do?" She asked amusment clear in her voice.
"I don't know...pizza and video games?" I asked.
"Ew no!" she was disgusted at the thought of me even suggesting such a thing.
"Fine what do you want to do?" I asked.
"Anything but that," she said and I laughed.
"I think I'll stay here, text me if you come up with something." I said hanging up before she could say anything more.
My phone began to ring again.
"Damn it Katie I just want to order pizza and play video games." I said somewhat angrily.
"Em?" I heard his voice.
"Who is this?" I asked slowly.
"Luke, I was wondering if you wanted to come to band practice with me." he asked.
"Ummm, like you heard I plan on eating and playing video games all evening." I said bashfully.
"That sounds like fun," he said trailing off.
"I'd invite you over but you have band practice." I teased.
"Ok well I have to go, bye Em," he said hanging up.
I ordered a large pizza and the stack of video games I had under my bed. I moved downstairs to the couch and waited for my pizza. 15 minuets later the doorbell rang. I got up to open the door. When I reached the door I eagerly opened the door expecting to see a middle aged pizza delivery man.
"Luke?" I said when I saw the tall blounde standing at my door.
"I cancelled practice, you said you'd invite me over if it wasn't for practice." he said.
After standing at the door for awhile I snapped out of my confused trance. "Well come inside." I said rolling my eyes.
Luke Hemmings was at my house.
