You were a childhood friend and co-worker of Greg Lestrade at Scotland Yard. You knew each other since you can remember even though Greg was a few years older than you were. You always played together at the playground when he and his mother visited your home, which was quite often due to both your mothers were childhood friends themselves. Both of you went to the police. He became a detective and you went to medical school and became a pathologist. For a few years you lost contact with each other. Due to your great language skills you ended up in a german division after graduating university while Greg stayed in London. A few years later you got transferred to Britain again because you decided you wanted to be close to your family after all this time. You started to grow close to Greg again who grew on you like a big brother.
He convinced his boss to transfer you to his division so you and him would see each other on a daily basis. Everything worked out fine. You would spend most of your time at Scotland Yard instead of St. Barts hospital since you were an enrichment to his team. You got along with Sergeant Donovan and Anderson as well, though Anderson would hit on you from time to time which you found rather disgusting since he was way older than you and married. But Sally Donovan had a thing for him. She ended up with him more than once in some one night stands what you certainly could not understand.

But that was not everything. You have always been gifted. Graduated from med school with honour and skipped some grades, but your main talent were deductions and conclusions. Most of the time when you visited Scotland Yard people around you handed you folders of cases they could not solve. But you could. They would place bets on who did it while you read and within seconds you could determine the culprit.
You have never been wrong in this game.
Sally sometimes brought guys she would like to date to work so you could take a look at them. You were amazing at deducting people so you would tell her whether he was good enough for her or not, he would treat her well or not or if he cheated on his girlfriends before. She was quite grateful for your duties since you prevented her to go out with a drug dealer once.

While you visited Greg you occasionally noticed this one man who came around now and then. He and his short friend who always tagged around would go to Greg's office for a few minutes, then come out and leave. You did not fail to notice that he was quite attractive. He was tall, had dark curly hair and always dressed up in a coat and a green scarf. His eyes had a fair blue-greenish color and seemed to be observing everything. He did not work for the police. He was a consultant. You could tell as much. He was not a man of emotions, he rarely showed any reaction to what was going on around him. Murder and crime. He seemed rather absent but not in a way of disinterest but a way of thinking. His small friend was easier to deduct. He worked for the military but got injured. He was probably his flatmate or even boyfriend since both of them always came and left together. The small and the tall man frequently used medical terms in their talk so both of them had kind of a medical training. The tall man and Anderson did not get along very well.
Sally called him freak.

One day they just disappeared in Greg's office. You sat next to Anderson on his desk who just handed you a folder. You looked through it and immediately knew the answer. You wrote the name of the victims wife's brother on the bract.
'The victim was a surgeon. He could have prevented his wife from dieing, but he did not. The brother confronted him and lost his tempter. After he realised what he had done he tried to distract from himself and left a symbol of the nearest street gang on the crime scene. Nobody would have suspected him since the gangs are quite aggressive around this part of the city.' you summed up, while Anderson took notes. While you watched Anderson you felt an intense gaze resting on you. You turned around to see the tall man standing behind you with his lips slightly agape watching you. After a few seconds it started creeping you out.
'Are you OK?' you asked kinda uncomfortable. He still did not move. He had gone in a state of complete amazement and confusion. His small friend approached from behind him when he noticed this cringey scene.
'Sherlock... Sherlock... SHERLOCK.' he said while waving his hand in front of the man's face who still not moved.
'I am really sorry about him.' he apologised.
'I am John. John Watson.' you nodded and shook his hand.
'(Y/N) (L/N) and who might this be?' you asked and looked in the strange man's direction.
'That's my friend Sherlock Holmes.'
'Hello, Mr Holmes.' you greeted cheerfully and reached for his hand to shake. He finally looked away from your face and down to your hand which he shook a little too hard for your preference. And way too long. He just would not let go of your hand. You looked up to his face and eyes. He observed the reaction you would give him but you just calmly looked him in the eyes. -He had not slept in a few days. Maybe two. Be hat bags under his eyes and his eyes were red. He had been a drug addict but was clean now. His handshake was hard but shaky which meant he was not clean for long. Maybe since he met John. Both of them did not seem to know each other for long but he called Sherlock a friend and they lived together. - you thought. A small smile formed on Sherlock's face and you smiled back. You knew exactly what he was thinking.
'I'm glad I'm not the only one.' he said and both your smiles grew even wider. John just stood between the two of you with a puzzled look.

From this day you did not just visit Greg but Sherlock as well who you shared long and heated talkes with. You also grew very fond of John. Both your favourite topic was to dis Anderson.
