The Third Witch

And so with that, the mystery went unsolved. Miss Cross wrote an article about how Juan Rodriguez killed my uncle and Kalista Kalzone.

John Genoa, believing now that I was safe, returned to his private eye business, and probably has forgotten about the whole thing by now.

Robert Valentine returned to his life as well, not giving a second thought to me or the vacant mansion that was next to his, but I am sure that the second he gets some new neighbors, he will seal up the secret passageway if he hasn't already.

Miss Hansen went to work for him. I heard Penny and her don't get along at all and that her duties are different than Penny's, and I am sure that they are.

Rebecca Backstrom was never heard from anyone again.  She took the money my uncle had deposited into her bank accounts and left. She didn't want anything to do with the assets that were not in her name. She left the mansion, the money, and me alone. I think she was only there because the police wanted her there. They never considered her suspect, but because she knew about the painting, she had to be there.

Juan Rodriguez and Kalista Kalzone were buried on separate days in separate cemeteries. Based on the way things ended, I think it was appropriate.

As for me, Doctor Angel, I think I am over my uncle's death. I have come to accept that his death is as unsolvable as the identity of the man who hit me over the head. I would like to believe that it was Juan Rodriguez the whole time, but it just doesn't seem to fit. He went to his grave without giving us a motive or an answer and that is the thing that hurts me the most.

With that being said, I am going to leave. Thank you for listening to me Doctor Angel, but I do have a few questions for you before I take off.

What is the painting doing in your office? How did you obtain it? And, what are you doing with that knife?
