It had been a few hours since Naina had come back and her mother had her last tantrum, Naina was still bathing in the laughs that her, Aditi and the boys had earlier today. She had gone up to study long ago, but just couldn't bring herself to concentrate, no matter how hard she tried. She would just think of a joke that they had shared, and mentally burst out laughing. This occurred for a while, and even on the dinner table, Naina found herself in a faraway land with Aditi, Avi and Akash. Afterwards, she tried to settle down on the couch with her favourite book, but her happiness was uncontrollable. "What's so funny Nain?" Adi asked her after spotting her ever glowing smile. "Nothing bhaiyya, it's just the book." Naina replied shyly, trying to hide the blush that had creeped up on her face. Adi raised an eyebrow, not buying Naina's answer. "You're reading the fault in our stars. There's nothing funny in that." He said suspiciously. Naina looked around to check if anyone was listening. Her mother was busy washing the dishes and her dad was on a call, so she proceeded to tell her brother everything that had happened that day. Naina and Adi had a different sort of relationship, whilst other siblings fought over the littlest of things, Naina and Adi would tell each other their deepest secrets. There was nothing about one that the other didn't know. They only had one an a half years of difference and hence could relate to any problems that the other was facing. Soon both sibling were found laughing hard at the antics of today. This attracted their parents attention, their father was happy to see them laughing together, bonding well like they always did. Their mother on the other hand scowled at them and walked in causing them to stop and sit back solemnly on the couch. "Why are you guys laughing so hard?" She demanded, to which they replied with a curt shake of their heads. "And how come you stopped when I walked in?" She questioned as Naina rolled her eyes in response, hoping her mother hadn't caught that, unfortunately for Naina, her mother had, and she was now fuming. "Don't you dare roll your eyes at me young lady. I don't know what's gotten into you recently, but you are becoming more and more cheekier, and I have had enough. You know what Dinesh," she said walking towards their father, who had been watching patiently from the doorway. "You know who does this. Aditi. That girl is a bad influence on our Naina. I mean have you seen the type of clothes she wears. Her shorts are so short, that sometimes you can hardly see them." She said running round like a maniac. Naina clenched her fists trying to calm her nerves. "Yes but Sarika, she's Naina's best friend, and I think Naina knows who to chose as her best friend. She's more than capable." Her father intervened, trying to settle her mother, knowing she had hit a sensitive topic, however, Naina's mother paid no attention and continued ranting about Aditi. "I mean, it's hideous. She's such a bad child. No wonder her mother left her. If I had a daughter like her, I would leave her as well, she's such a disgrace. What does she even study, if she does. Does she study?" She questioned herself, still pacing around the living room. Adi glanced over at Naina looking over at her fists, which were still tightly clenched in her lap. "Okay mum, if you can't say anything good about someone, don't say anything at all," he said standing up trying to get her off the topic, and guided her to the sofa, but she brushed him off like he was a speck of dust and continued her speech. "What was I saying, oh yes. Naina, I don't think you should hang out, or even be friends with someone like her. She's a nuisance, and will corrupt you. I don't understand how you stayed with her, but now you won't, and I'll make sure you won't. From now on, you're banned from leaving this house, you can study here in the nice comfort of your home, and don't even think about calling her or texting her or anything. She's banned from coming in this house. Also, I want he existence erased from your mind. Get rid of any pictures of her, burn her clothes, delete her number, in fact, give me your phone, we'll delete her number now." She said sticking her hand out for Naina to give her her phone. This was it for Naina. She unclench we her fist and breathes slowly, standing up, her 5 foot towering over her mothers. "Mum, I hope that you realise that you're talking about my best friend," Naina said walking past her. "And as for the studying thing. Aditi has a scholarship. In art. In one of the best universities in England. And she is the bestest friend I could ask for. She's kind, and nice, and most important she understands me. Unlike you." she said walking towards the door fuming,"Oh and another thing mum, just because she's not studying to be a doctor of lawyer doesn't make her a bad influence. Everyone had different priorities, and I will be proud if she's a successful artist." Naina added coming back round the door and leaving to her room, slamming the door behind her in rage. "How could she say such a thing, Aditi is my best friend and I will love her no matter what, it's not her fault that she's not choosing to be a doctor or lawyer or engineer. That's her choice" Naina said to herself flipping backwards onto her bed. "Naina?" She heard a voice call her and she rolled her eyes, not expecting it to be her brother. "I know what she said hurt your feelings, but she didn't mean it, I mean, she's said so many things before, we just decided to ignore it remember?" He said sitting down on the bed next to her. Naina thought about what Adi had just said. After processing it, she stood up and walked around, in effort to rid her mind of the harsh words of her mother. "But bhaiyya, there's only so much I can take, I am human, not some machine. And I have had it up to here with her" she said gesturing with her hand to a little below her head. Venting her feelings out to her brother made her feel better, but she was still upset and angry at the comment her mother had made. "I mean it's fine when it's me or you, but it's not. It's my best friend, and she's in no place to judge her, she doesn't know what she's been through to get to where she is now, and I won't take any crap about her," Naina said walking towards her phone, which was lying on the desk charging away. "I need a break." she mumbled and dialled Aditi's number straight away. "Hello?" Aditi asked cautiously. She had picked up immediately and knew that when Naina called her, it was serious. She never called her, it was normally the other way round. "Aditi" Naina said through gritted teeth. "Book me a damn ticket."
