Perspective:Tor
The Gold Maiden slows a bit as the sight of the planet grows larger and larger till it looms over the ship completely.
A planet that orbits a bright yellow sun,but why it was so dark was explained by Louis and Octavian as being,"so much covered by a dark atmosphere of clouds that even bright yellow suns couldn't brighten it."
The residents must be incredibly adept to night and darkness.
"Home to the Vivanians,"remarks Octavian about the planet."A race of reptilians that loved darkness, and to specialize in weaponry more than anything.Along with being a bit too self-centered,as well as rude and even hostile."
The ships cruises closer to the clouds, and I can just make out the darker true surface of the Vivanian planet.
"Few visitors have ever crossed by the planet,as it sits in a dark and empty arm of it's galaxy,"reads Cecilia from an encyclopedia of planets."Fewer have landed, and recently, fewer have lifted off..."
Cecilia and the rest of us all stare from around the captain's control center at the now even more foreboding planet. As if it hadn't been unsettling in the first viewing.
The Maiden passes through the clouds and shakes as the gravity makes it rocket towards the navy blue dirt, and the masses of an empty and ruined city of stone.
"I just remembered,"I conclude."This ship isn't actual wood.Otherwise, without the constant force field around the ship,it'd be torn to shards."
Sally worries. She shouts to Louis,"Why are we still speeding this fast? You slowed the ship didn't you?"
"Not all the way,"chuckles Louis, even though the look on his face showed he clearly realized the ship could shatter to the ground, wooden or not."I'll the gravity run it for a bit,and then stabilize it fully."
And he does so a few miles above, but weirdly is the only one who isn't thrown back a few feet due to the force of going from the speed of sound to a snail's pace. All of us,a bit bruised, curse at him as we stumble back on to our feet.
"Bastard!"I scream.Louis laughs at the near-fatal mischief he played."You could've broken our necks you dickhead!"
Ironically,I strain to keep the contagious laughter out of my voice.
The laughter dies down as we near the empty ruins. The darks cyan skies loom over The Maiden, casting a veil of shade between us and the sun.Though no one asks aloud, and as the ship looms over the rooftop of the building it begins to land upon,a burning question surrounds our minds.
Where is everybody?
